Art and Design Foundation is a one-year certificate program that will provide you with a broad base of expert knowledge and technical skills in the field of art and design. This program is designed for students who want to explore a variety of art and design disciplines, to develop their portfolio for further study or for those who wish to enjoy learning creative skills in a studio-based environment.

Apparel Fit Technicians are able to recognize good apparel fit, identify fit problems and correct fit in ready-made garments. They apply ideal fit standards across different body types and fabrics. As a student in this program, you will also develop your customer service skills. 

As a student in the Fashion TECH program, you will acquire the digital and hands-on training to enter skilled employment as machine operators in the digital fashion technology fields of knitting, embroidery, dye sublimation or laser cutting.

The Gemmology program teaches you to analyze and classify a wide variety of gem materials, both natural and artificially created. The program focuses on analyzing chemical and physical characteristics of gem and gemlike materials, and identifying different gems. The gem materials are classified into categories according to their desirable characteristics, which eventually determine the value of the gems. To accomplish the identification and classification, you use a number of specially designed instruments such as microscopes, spectroscopes, refractometers, polariscopes and others.

The Industrial Power Sewing program prepares you to work in an industrial sewing environment. Graduates have the ability to complete standard garment construction work using industrial machines to a quality standard. You will also gain experience using specialty sewing machines and pressing equipment. 

The Jewellery Essentials program provides you with the skills and techniques necessary to begin a career in the jewellery industry. You will learn to saw, file, solder, grind, polish and finish metals including copper, brass, silver and gold. Fabrication, computer modelling, and casting techniques will be used to create jewellery pieces to high standards.

Commercial Dance (P106) is a 12-month certificate program graduating professional triple-threat dancers ready for a career in commercial dance.

Dance Performance Preparation is a one-year certificate program offering high-standard technical and performance training, which will prepare you to pursue further dance studies and careers in dance.

This seven-week certificate program is specifically designed for actors who have graduated from recognized theatre schools or theatre professionals (Equity members) with at least five years' experience, and wish to acquire, develop and deepen their on-camera acting skills in order to move confidently between the worlds of stage and screen.

The Media Foundation program offers you the chance to explore a variety of media career options while developing the skills necessary to succeed in diploma and advanced diploma media programs. You will have the opportunity to explore courses in photography and image manipulation, storytelling, audio production, interactive media and visual storytelling techniques. 

Theatre Arts – Preparation is a dynamic one-year program, specifically designed for students to obtain the basic skills for entry into theatre and media programs.Disclaimer: This program has expectations of professionalism, group work, intimacy between actors, whispering, consensual touching, combat training, expressions of physicality, deep exploration of self, personal psychological examination, conflict, and successful failure.  This program is meant to train a student to be a professional actor which includes all of these aspects listed here.

George Brown College's American Sign Language and Deaf Studies (C114) program is delivered online and is open to both Deaf and non-Deaf students. This program provides intensive training in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. If you are thinking about entering the Honours Bachelor of Interpretation (ASL – English) program, or if you want to combine ASL with another career, this program is highly recommended. This program is unique in Ontario.

George Brown College's Deafblind & Intervenor Studies (C158) program is a one-year certificate that will prepare you to work with individuals who have a combined vision and hearing loss. Significant components of this program are delivered online.

George Brown College's Advanced Studies in Inclusive Early Childhood is a post-diploma, one-semester training program that strengthen your capacity to respond to children with special needs. This program is designed for Early Childhood Educators, teachers and supervisors.

George Brown College's Child Development Practitioner (CDP) program is designed for those already working in the field of Early Childhood who wish to pursue formal studies and receive certification as a Career Development Practitioner. As a CDP apprentice, you will be required to take 23 modules of in-school training on a part-time basis in the evenings. This training is currently being offered in a hybrid format - both in-person and online.

George Brown College's Early Childhood (EC) Management Certificate (Post-Diploma) is a one-semester program designed to prepare supervisors and directors for their roles and responsibilities in childcare centres, family childcare, preschools, nursery schools, family drop-in centres, family literacy programs and early intervention services. This program will also prepare you for management and leadership in the integrated early childhood system that is emerging in Ontario.

This 1-year program is eligible for a $20,000 scholarship.*This Electrical Techniques program focuses on building a working knowledge of electricity and electronics in relation to residential and commercial electrician applications. Students will develop skills and competencies in electrical theory, network cabling, electrical system installation and electrical workplace safety.*Domestic students only — see page for details.

This Plumbing Techniques program covers residential, commercial and industrial applications in the plumbing industry with a focus on residential plumbing. It is a hands-on program that may benefit anyone seeking to enter an apprenticeship or any construction-related career path.

This 1-year program is eligible for a $20,000 scholarship.*Welding is a high-demand trade, one that is critical for the success of many major development projects in every province across the country. The Welding Techniques program prepares students with practical, hands-on experience that applies the technical theory and elements of the welding field. Our state-of-the-art welding lab includes 26 individual stations that allow students to train in a controlled environment, as well as our virtual welding stations that offer students the opportunity to practise using realistic simulations. The Smart Welding Lab also provides a monitor and specialized infrared camera that lets instructors demonstrate and digitally document welding techniques.*Domestic students only — see page for details.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSThis online distance program is only available to study while remaining in your home country and does not qualify for study/work permit eligibility in Canada.The Automation Technician Certificate was developed to meet the industry's growing demand for workers with a broad set of skills and knowledge in industrial automation, including digital electronics, process control, SCADA systems and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers and robotics. The program examines applications and examples of automated manufacturing systems including both the theory and function of digital and industrial electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics, robotics systems, programming languages and alarm management. This online program is delivered to students using a combination of theory and laboratory simulations using LogixSim, a simulation software suite that includes electronics, PLC and robotics simulation.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician training program is intended to address a global need for people who are skilled in diagnosing, servicing and repairing high voltage EVs and commercial charging stations.Students in the EV Technician program receive both theoretical and laboratory instruction through a combination of multimedia learning resources and an electrical/electronics simulation software package (CircuitLogix Pro) to allow for the testing, validation, and understanding of electrical and electronic circuits that are found in a typical EV.The program will also be highly beneficial to Automotive Service Technicians who have a strong background in internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles, but who lack the knowledge and skills in power electronics and data communication systems to safely perform service-related work on EVs and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). This program is often of interest to people who want to study electronics with an emphasis on mechanical systems, for example, someone coming from a millwright background. The program covers mechanical topics outside of a typical electronics program, like industrial control devices, DC and AC motors and control circuits, transformers, analog and digital transducers, industrial process control and PLCs.ADVANCED STANDINGIf you have finished the Electronics Technician program, you are exempted from 18 modules of the Electromechanical Technician program.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSThis online distance program is only available to study while remaining in your home country and does not qualify for study/work permit eligibility in Canada.This program focuses on the skills needed to assemble, install, troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment used by consumers, businesses and industry. Students learn electronics theory and how to work with circuits and the various components of electronic systems such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductors and amplifiers. The focus is on a broad understanding of the field that students can then apply to specific areas of interest or employment.

This Mechanical Techniques program is specifically designed to complement university engineering students' theoretical knowledge with applied practical techniques. Topics include manufacturing protocol, engineering drawing, solid modelling (Solidworks), precision machining, quality control, CNC machining with Mastercam, pneumatics/electro-pneumatic circuits and microprocessor control systems. Coursework emphasizes practical techniques through applied learning and hands-on lab activities.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSThis online distance program is only available to study while remaining in your home country and does not qualify for study/work permit eligibility in Canada.The Programmable Logic Controllers Technician (PLC) Certificate program provides the basic technical skills and knowledge necessary to work with programmable logic control systems found typically in an industrial/manufacturing environment. The program covers the operation of various PLC control systems including both discrete and analog control devices. The simulation software, PLCLogix 500, which is included with the program, simulates the Rockwell Logix 500 series of PLCs.ADVANCED STANDINGIf you have finished the PLC Technician II program, you are exempted from 7 modules of the PLC Technician program.

The PLC Technician II provides a more advanced study of PLCs in manufacturing including DCS & SCADA systems. The PLCLogix 5000 simulator integrated within the program emulates the Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 programming applications and features 3D simulation and advanced programming.ADVANCED STANDINGIf you have finished the PLC Technician program, you are exempted from 7 modules of the PLC Technician II program.

This certificate program introduces the concepts of industrial robots and explains how they are used in a plant or manufacturing system. The primary focus of the program is on automated manufacturing processes, as well as the role of robots and their support equipment. Receive instruction in both theoretical concepts and laboratory exercises using a combination of multimedia learning resources and a robotics simulation software package.

George Brown College's Dental Assisting (S113) program provides the education required to work as a certified dental assistant (Levels I and II). Students will develop the skills, technical knowledge and clinical experience necessary to work in a professional, ethical and collaborative manner in a variety of settings.

George Brown College's Dental Office Administration (S115) program will teach you the administrative skills and clinical knowledge you need to work effectively in a dental practice. You'll also get ample hands-on experience offsite with a dental partner so you'll be ready to work upon graduation.  

George Brown College's Personal Support Worker (PSW) (C112) is a two-semester program that teaches students the skills required to provide or assist with personal care for the elderly, the chronically ill and persons with accessibility challenges. These patients may live in the community, in long-term care facilities or in select ambulatory care settings. Classes are held online and on-site at our state-of-the-art Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences located at the Waterfront Campus.

George Brown College's one-semester Personal Support Worker Pathway to Practical Nursing Program prepares Personal Support Worker (PSW) graduates for entry into the Practical Nursing (PN) program. Created and designed by faculty in the Sally Horsfall Eaton School of Nursing, this 252-hour program is offered full-time at approximately 18 hours per week.

Our one-year Culinary Skills certificate program offers exactly what you need to begin a career as a chef or cook: top-notch instruction and hands-on practice with professional chefs. Our culinary faculty will teach you the fundamentals of food preparation, introduce you to a wide range of ingredients and share with you the fascinating world of food culture. Through our theory-based courses, you’ll learn about emerging and established culinary movements such as local, sustainable, nutrition focus and international cuisines. You’ll gain experience and apply newly learned culinary skills by practising in our hands-on cooking labs, guided, and supported by your chefs.

This one-year Hospitality Services Certificate is career-focused and comes with a range of future study opportunities and, alternatively, enables entry to the industry. This program will provide students with the fundamental skills to provide exceptional service to global customers in the field of hospitality and tourism. This certificate program provides broad exposure to the many segments across the hospitality and tourism industry, it assists those with hospitality experience to build their skills for the Canadian workplace and it prepares them to advance their academics with a pathway for entry into two-year diploma programs in our School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. This program is closely linked to operators of recognized hotels and resorts, restaurants, and events, catering, and tourism companies.

Continuing Education ESL Pathway to George Brown College Certificates and Diplomas will help you meet the minimum English Language admissions requirement for any of our full-time Ontario College Certificate, Diploma, or Postgraduate Certificate programs. This pathway is available within George Brown College only and does not apply to programs with a co-op component.

George Brown College’s English as a Second Language (ESL) (Part-Time) Certificate is an accelerated hybrid program to help you develop your English language skills for personal, professional and academic purposes. We offer eight levels of instruction that range from low beginner to advanced and a variety of elective courses to meet your individual learning needs. Each level runs for six weeks and combines a variety of activities designed to strengthen reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

George Brown College's English for Professional Success Certificate will help you develop the skills you need to succeed in Canada's highly competitive and often challenging workplace. By further developing your verbal, listening, and written communication skills, this part-time program will help you build confidence in personal and professional cross-cultural linguistic interactions. Apply to this program if you are a non-native speaker with advanced-level English skills.PLEASE NOTE: Classes for this certificate are delivered in person during evenings and weekends to accommodate working professionals.

This EAP program will provide you with exciting student life opportunities through co- and extra-curricular events and workshops. 

George Brown College’s General Arts and Science – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (R105) program is a post-secondary program for newcomers who have permanent resident status, refugee status or Canadian citizenship. This program will help you learn or improve your English and will prepare you for post-secondary study and future employment. This EAP program will provide you with exciting student life opportunities through co- and extracurricular events and workshops. 

George Brown College's General Arts and Science (R104) is a one-year certificate designed for students who wish to develop the skills and competencies required in college, university and the workplace. As a student in this program, you will explore subjects within humanities, social sciences and science and mathematics; develop skills in critical thinking, oral and written communications and career development; and acquire knowledge and explore ideas in a range of disciplines to meet your needs and interests. Students who meet GPA requirements may transfer into the two-year (R101) diploma program, which has established pathways to a number of universities.

George Brown College's Academic Upgrading (A751) is a tuition-free program that will help improve your reading, writing, math and science skills. It is an ideal program if you are English-speaking, have not yet completed high school credits, but are interested in pursing college-level post-secondary studies, further skills training, apprenticeship or employment. We offers several intakes each year with full-time and part-time study options available. Prior to starting (A751), you will be required to complete a reading and writing assessment to determine your suitability and placement in the program.Beginning Fall 2022, students will have the choice between courses offered in-person and online, subject to availability. Registered students who are regularly attending the program may be eligible to receive a transportation subsidy, a netbook and/or monthly Internet device.

George Brown College’s Academic Upgrading for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Adults (A752) is the only college-based Academic Upgrading program in Toronto that teaches all course material in American Sign Language (ASL). This tuition-free program is for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students who want to upgrade their English, ASL and math for success in further education, training or employment. A transportation subsidy is available for qualifying students.This program is funded by Employment Ontario through the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD).  Academic Upgrading students will have the choice to take some courses either in-person (on-campus) or online, subject to availability. Registered students who are regularly attending the program, may be eligible to receive a transportation subsidy, a netbook and/or monthly Internet device.

The College Vocational program (A101) is a two-semester program designed to address employment barriers and meet the employment preparation needs of students who are neurodiverse or who live with a mild intellectual disability. Designed for maximum engagement and inclusion, the program helps students develop effective teamwork and communication skills, as well as self-awareness, self-advocacy and confidence to set achievable goals. In collaboration with community partner PTP Adult Learning & Employment Programs, students in this program participate in a range of employment-related workshops and have a work placement opportunity.This program is suitable for those who have graduated from high school with an Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) or Diploma (OSSD) and workplace credits. This program is unique in Ontario.

George Brown College’s Construction Craft Worker (A106) is a free, 18-week supported education program for individuals who identify mental health and/or addictions challenges as a barrier to education and employment. In a small group, hands-on setting, with experiential work opportunities and job-coaching support, students will develop the skills they need for entry-level work in Toronto's construction industry. This program was developed in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and is unique in Canada.

George Brown College’s Culinary Skills (A110) is a free, supported education program for individuals who identify mental health and/or addictions challenges as a barrier to education and employment. In a small-group, hands-on setting, with experiential work opportunities and job coaching support, the program prepares students for entry-level work in Toronto's food service industry.This program, developed in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is designed for students who see work as part of their recovery process and is unique in Canada. 

George Brown College’s Human Services Foundations (A113) is a two-semester program designed to kickstart your career journey. In a supportive learning environment, you will strengthen your academic skills to be prepared for entry-level employment in the human services sector and/or further education in a variety of human services–related diploma programs. You will gain foundational knowledge in sociology and psychology and enhance your communication and teamwork skills, while developing an understanding of the systemic issues that impact individuals and communities. Working with classmates in an inclusive team environment, you will explore personal and professional goals and career pathway options for future success in the human services field.

George Brown College’s Pre-Business (A146) program will help you develop the academic skills you need to enter and succeed in a variety of diploma programs and/or prepare you for entry-level work in the business field.  In a supportive learning environment, you'll study the foundations of business, marketing, accounting, math and communications and will earn credits toward diploma-level programs. Upon graduation, you can apply for admission into semester 2 of select George Brown Centre for Business diploma programs.

George Brown College’s Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (A108) program will prepare you to apply for and be successful in a range of health science programs at the advanced diploma or degree level. In a supportive learning environment, you will explore potential health science career opportunities and identify educational pathways to help you meet your career goals.  PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in a program that will prepare you with the admission requirements you need to apply to a one-year certificate or two-year diploma health sciences program, apply to George Brown’s Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas (A109) program.

The Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas (A109) program will prepare you for admission to a variety of Health Sciences programs including George Brown College’s Practical Nursing (S121) diploma program. To develop the skills you need to work as an effective member of a health-care team, you will take courses in biology, chemistry, applied math, social science, human relations, communications and general education electives.PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in pursuing a three-year advanced diploma or four-year degree program at the college or university level, apply to George Brown’s Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (A108) program.

George Brown College’s Transitions to Post-Secondary Education (A107) is a three-semester, supported education program for individuals who identify mental health and/or addictions challenges as barriers to education and/or employment. Students in this program will have the opportunity to assess new pathways to academic and employment success.
