If you will be writing the English Level Placement Test for the R105 - English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program for entry into the Spring 2025 (May - August 2025) semester, it will now take place ONLINE on Friday, March 14, 2025. Please find testing details in your email and R105 program invoice letter.

George Brown College's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (R105) program is your gateway to mastering the English language. We attract students from all over the world, creating a diverse, enriching learning environment.

Note: This program offers you the choice to enrol in either online or in-person classes. You will be sent more information once you receive an offer to the program.  

Get ready to boost your communication skills in a variety of learning areas, including:

  • listening
  • speaking
  • reading
  • writing
  • vocabulary
  • grammar

Our certified teachers will guide you through interactive lessons, both in-person and online.

Choose Your Own EAP Pathway

As you reach Level 7 or Level 8, you can take one of four routes:

  • Continue in the post-secondary stream of the EAP program
  • Pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Business Studies
  • Pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Hospitality Studies
  • Pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Early Childhood Education Studies

*Please keep in mind that space is limited, so we can’t guarantee you’ll get your first-choice stream.

As part of our EAP program, you can also opt for selective courses tailored to develop specific communication skills, critical thinking abilities, digital expertise, and academic know-how to prepare you for your future college studies.

Program Dates and Duration

This program spans nine levels, from beginner to advanced, with each 16-week semester covering two levels.

Classes take place Monday–Friday from 9 AM–1 PM.

Certification

When you finish Level 8 or 9 and complete at least two EAP levels at George Brown, you'll earn an Ontario College Certificate. If you complete only level 8 or level 9, you'll receive a George Brown College Certificate.

Level 8 graduates are exempt from the English admissions test for most post-secondary programs at George Brown College and many other Ontario colleges. Level 9 graduates meet the English admission requirements for certain George Brown College degree programs and graduate certificate programs with co-op or field education placements.

NOTE: Double-check each program’s requirements for any mandatory admission testing details.

Educational Pathways

Completion of Level 8 – Meets the English language requirement for most certificate and diploma at George Brown College.

Completion of Level 9 – Will be prepared with the study, research and essay-writing skills required for diploma, postgraduate and degree-level programs.

George Brown College’s General Arts and Science – English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (R105) program is a post-secondary program for newcomers who have permanent resident status, refugee status or Canadian citizenship. This program will help you learn or improve your English and will prepare you for post-secondary study and future employment. This EAP program will provide you with exciting student life opportunities through co- and extracurricular events and workshops.

George Brown College's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (R105) program is a post-secondary program that helps you learn English. Students from around the world come to learn in our supportive environment.

Develop a Variety of Communication Skills

In this three-semester program, you will develop skills in:

  • listening
  • speaking
  • reading
  • writing
  • vocabulary
  • grammar

Certified teachers use a wide range of interactive teaching resources both in-person, in state-of-the-art classrooms and online.

Choose Your Own EAP Pathway

At the start of Level 7 or Level 8, students may choose to*:

  • continue in the post-secondary stream of the English for Academic Purposes program, or
  • pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Business Studies, or
  • pursue Level 7 or Level 8 English for Hospitality Studies

*Space is limited and students may not receive their first-choice stream.

In the EAP program, students can also choose to enroll in a series of selective courses. These courses give students the opportunity to develop specific communication skills, critical thinking abilities, digital skills and academic skills that will prepare them for further studies in a college environment. 

Note: Upon completion of Level 8, students interested in developing the higher language skills required for college or university degrees, postgraduate co-op programs or field education can pursue Level 9 studies. 

Program Dates and Duration

We offer nine levels of EAP that progress from beginner to advanced levels. Each 16-week semester includes two levels.

You will begin at the level determined by your placement test or an official and valid IELTS (Academic), TOEFL (iBT), or Duolingo exam score report at the time of admission or before classes begin.

Classes are held Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. By registering, students are expected to attend the schedule as it is assigned.

Certification
