George Brown College alumna Diana Coatsworth is spearheading a sewing army that has swept across Canada, providing much-needed face masks, surgical caps and hospital gowns to health-care and essential workers who need them.

Milan Shahani knows firsthand the impact that adaptive clothing can have for people with disabilities. Shahani, Professor in the School of Fashion & Jewellery, was partially paralyzed on one side of her body after having a stroke eight years ago.

Once again George Brown students have impressed international fashion industry professionals with four winning scholarships from the Manhattan-based YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund.

The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund accepts submissions from students across the United States and Canada as part of its annual case competition. Several George Brown students have received scholarships over the past several years and our 2019-2020 cohort continued the tradition.

Well 2019, it’s been a slice! It was a busy year, full of amazing achievements, innovation and exciting new partnerships to take us into the future.

Let’s take a look back at highlights of 2019 at George Brown College:

We’ve partnered with Samsung Canada to provide the latest mobile phone technology to students at the School of Media and Performing Arts who will use those devices to create video content.

The Samsung Galaxy smartphone filmmaking initiative launched in the Video Design and Production program in January 2020. Students in two courses (Video Production I and Special Effects) will have access to Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy S10 devices to both shoot and produce video content.
