New social media, animation and film production programs set students up for success in the digital media field

Do you want to turn your passion for social media into your profession? Do you want to build worlds and stories for extended reality, online, film and television projects with leading technology used on shows like The Mandalorian and Star Trek: Discovery? Five new programs at George Brown College's School of Media and Performing Arts will prepare you for exciting and in-demand digital media careers.

Trent Scherer, Associate Dean of the School of Media and Performing Arts, said these new programs equip students with extensive skill sets. Students learn by doing, using cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices and techniques.

"Students in our social media programs develop and sharpen their technical skills while also exploring the cultural influences and dynamics of these platforms. These programs also bridge a gap between content creators and marketers and advertisers," he said. "Our film production and animation programs focus on LED wall technology and provide students with well-rounded training that spans the traditional, digital, and virtual landscapes."

And George Brown's downtown Toronto location means you'll study surrounded by leading organizations, influencers, and artists in your chosen field.

Craft content and create stories for extended reality (XR)

Two new programs delve into the world of LED wall technology — the tech used to produce the rich scenery and worlds in shows like The Mandalorian on Disney+ and Star Trek: Discovery, filmed in Toronto. Students develop the skills to animate and tell stories for virtual and online platforms and film, television and video games.

"Our 2.5-by-5-metre LED wall gives students practical experience working with industry-leading technology," Scherer said. "Graduates will enter a growing field with the skills to tell compelling stories and stay on top of advancements in the industry."
