7 extraordinary industry & community leaders receiving honorary credentials at convocation

Seven extraordinary professionals who've left an indelible mark on their industry and community will receive honorary credentials at our 2022 Convocation ceremonies, June 13-17. 

They’re also being recognized for their contributions to the areas of study offered at George Brown and because they’re exceptional role models for our students. 

Chris Campbell

Chris Campbell - honorary credential recipient, convocation 2022

Vice-President, Toronto Carpenter’s Union, Local 27,  
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Representative, Carpenters District Council of Ontario 
Honorary Advanced Diploma — Building Renovation Technology 

Chris Campbell is being honoured for his work to address issues of racism, fighting discriminatory hiring practices, promoting the trade to women and people in BIPOC communities, and for his role in recruiting youth from his community to pursue careers in the construction trade. 

Sohaila Khaliqyar

PhD Candidate, York University; Research Assistant, Lifeline Afghanistan; Program Coordinator, WES Gateway Program (Jumpstart Refugee Talent Initiative) 
Honorary General Arts and Sciences Diploma 

George Brown College is honouring Sohaila Khaliqyar for her significant advocacy work for refugees and social justice. Her work with the college has also been instrumental in reinforcing George Brown’s commitment to combatting racism and promoting democratic values grounded in inclusion and accountability.  

Damon Murchison

President and CEO, IG Wealth Management 
Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) 

We’re honouring Damon Murchison for his significant contribution to Ontario’s finance sector at major financial institutions, including his current position as President and CEO of IG Wealth Management. Murchison is a member of the George Brown College Foundation Board of Directors, and through his work with MacKenzie Investments, has supported Canadian charities focusing on social well-being and welfare. 

Ettore Palmeri

George Brown is recognizing Ettore Palmeri for his extraordinary achievements and remarkable contributions to the professional development of dental professionals. Since 1994, Palmeri Publishing has been an educational and communications touchpoint for the North American dental community. 

George Sully

George Sully - honorary credential recipient, convocation 2022

Principal, Black Designers of Canada 
Honours Bachelor of Brand Design 

We’re honouring George Sully for being an innovative player in the world of multimedia content creation and fashion design.  Sully launched Black Designers of Canada in 2020 — an interactive index of Black designers. He is the Co-Founder of Sully & Son Co. and House of Hayla. He is also a Bata Shoe Museum inductee.
