      The Automation Technician Certificate was developed to meet industry's growing demand for workers with a broad set of skills and knowledge in industrial automation, including digital electronics, process control, SCADA systems, and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers and robotics. The program examines applications and examples of automated manufacturing systems including both the theory and function of digital and industrial electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics, robotics systems, programming languages and alarm management. This online program is delivered to students using a combination of theory and laboratory simulations using LogixSim, a simulation software suite that includes electronics, PLC and robotics simulation.

      Specialization in building automation is an emerging and growing employment opportunity, especially in the construction and property development sector. We will provide the skills and knowledge you need for building science, building automation systems, networking and project management. Upon graduation, you will be prepared for jobs in the industrial/manufacturing sector and will have the skill set expected by the construction and property development sector. Builders and property managers require people to design and integrate building control systems such as lighting, telephony, security, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC), air quality, energy consumption and fire and safety. They need technologists familiar with a centralized approach, who can manage and control a building from an interface that provides building-wide efficiency, cost-effective operations and information sharing.

      This Electromechanical Technician Distance Education program allows you to complete the courses (modules) required to receive an Electromechanical Technician certificate while studying at home using an interactive learning package. The package consists of a USB drive containing 24 modules delivered using text, video, 2D and 3D animations, colour photos, audio and hundreds of laboratory projects. Tests are taken at home using computer-based testing. Laboratory projects feature a laboratory software simulation package. This interactive learning package allows you to complete all the modules, including lab projects and tests, using a computer in the comfort of your own home.

      This program integrates precision machining methods with advanced computer-controlled machine technology (CNC) in state-of-the-art Precision Machining, CAD/CAM, CNC, Research, and Welding Labs. Students design and manufacture tools, jigs, fixtures, precision fabrication assemblies and prototypes using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing software, precision machining equipment and sophisticated CNC machine tool technology. In their final year, students augment their learning by engaging in a 15-week Co-op placement with industry partners.
