The Electrical Techniques one-year certificate program builds your working knowledge of electricity and electronics in relation to residential and commercial electrician applications. You’ll develop skills and competencies in electrical theory, network cabling, electrical system installation and electrical workplace safety.

The Plumbing Techniques one-year certificate program covers residential, commercial and industrial applications in the plumbing industry, with a focus on residential plumbing. This hands-on program will benefit anyone seeking to enter an apprenticeship or any construction-related career path.

Welding is a high-demand trade, driving the success of major development projects across the country. The Welding Techniques one-year certificate program applies the technical theory and elements of the welding field through hands-on learning, transforming you into a welding pro. With our state-of-the-art welding lab featuring 26 stations and virtual welding simulations, you’ll hone your skills in a controlled setting. Our Smart Welding Lab also comes with an infrared camera and monitor that lets instructors demonstrate and digitally document welding techniques.

We developed the 32-week Automation Technician certificate program to meet the industry’s growing demand for workers with a broad set of skills and knowledge in industrial automation, including digital electronics, process control, SCADA systems, and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers and robotics. This program examines applications and examples of automated manufacturing systems, including both the theory and function of digital and industrial electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics, robotics systems, programming languages and alarm management. You’ll learn through a combination of theory and laboratory simulations using LogixSim, a simulation software suite that includes electronics, PLC and robotics simulation.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician training program addresses a global need for people who are skilled in diagnosing, servicing and repairing high voltage EVs, and commercial charging stations.

You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of electrical vehicle circuits through a blend of theoretical and hands-on instruction. Our multimedia learning resources and cutting-edge electrical/electronics simulation software (CircuitLogix Pro) enable you to test, validate and understand the complexities of circuits commonly found in EVs.

This program is highly beneficial to Automotive Service Technicians who have a strong background in internal combustion engine (ICE) powered vehicles, but lack the skills in power electronics and data communication systems to safely perform service-related work on EVs and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). This program is also relevant to electricians who will be installing, servicing and maintaining residential and commercial EV charging stations.

The Electromechanical Technician Certificate program provides a complete introduction to electronics and electromechanical systems. This program is often of interest to people who want to study electronics with an emphasis on mechanical systems, for example, someone coming from a millwright background. The program covers mechanical topics outside of a typical electronics program, like industrial control devices, DC and AC motors and control circuits, transformers, analog and digital transducers, industrial process control and PLCs.

Advanced Standing

If you have finished the Electronics Technician program, you are exempted from 18 modules of the Electromechanical Technician program.

This program focuses on the skills needed to assemble, install, troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment used by consumers, businesses and industry. Students learn electronics theory and how to work with circuits and the various components of electronic systems such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductors and amplifiers. The focus is on a broad understanding of the field that students can then apply to specific areas of interest or employment.

The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Technician Certificate program provides the basic technical skills and knowledge necessary to work with programmable logic control systems typically found in an industrial/manufacturing environment. The program covers the operation of various PLC control systems, including both discrete and analog control devices. The simulation software, PLCLogix 500, which is included with the program, simulates the Rockwell RSLogix 500 series of PLCs.

Advanced Standing

If you have finished the PLC Technician II program, you are exempted from 7 modules of the PLC Technician program.

The PLC Technician II Certificate program introduces the theory behind Programmable Logic Controllers while maintaining an emphasis on the application of PLCs in plant and manufacturing systems. The PLC Technician II program provides a more advanced study of PLCs in manufacturing, including DCS & SCADA systems. The PLCLogix 5000 simulator integrated within the program emulates the Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 programming applications and features 3D simulation and advanced programming.

Advanced Standing

If you have finished the PLC Technician program, you will receive credit for exemptions from seven modules of the PLC Technician II program.

This certificate program introduces the concepts of industrial robots and explains how they are used in a plant or manufacturing system. The primary focus of the program is on automated manufacturing processes, as well as the role of robots and their support equipment. Receive instruction in both theoretical concepts and laboratory exercises using a combination of multimedia learning resources and a robotics simulation software package, RoboLogix.

The Solar Energy Technician program provides comprehensive training in the installation, design, and maintenance of residential or commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. 

The online Solar Energy Technician Certificate is an open-enrolment program with no predetermined time limits. That means you can start at your convenience and finish at your own pace.

The Solar Panel Installer Certificate program provides an introduction to the fundamentals of solar PV installation. Students will gain the skills, expertise and confidence to complete both residential and commercial solar panel installation projects.

George Brown Polytechnic created this online program to address a global need for people skilled in servicing, diagnosing, repairing and installing wind turbines and related equipment.

The 16-week Industrial Power Sewing certificate program prepares you to work in an industrial sewing environment. After completing this program, you’ll be able to construct standard garments using industrial machines to a high standard. You’ll also gain experience using specialty sewing machines and pressing equipment.

The Jewellery Essentials one-year certificate program gives you the skills and techniques you need to begin a fulfilling career in the jewellery industry. The American Sign Language and Deaf Studies certificate is a fully online, synchronous program, where students meet live with professors on Zoom. It is open to both Deaf and non-Deaf learners, with classes offered Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. This program will provide you with intensive training in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.

The Deafblind and Intervenor Studies program will prepare you to work with individuals who have combined vision and hearing loss. This is a hybrid program that includes online and in-person components.

George Brown Polytechnic's Early Childhood (EC) Management Certificate (Post-Diploma) is a certificate program designed to prepare supervisors and directors for their roles and responsibilities in childcare programs, family childcare, preschools, nursery schools, family drop-in centres, family literacy programs and early intervention services. This program will also prepare you for management and leadership in the integrated early childhood system that is emerging in Ontario.

George Brown’s English as a Second Language (ESL) (Part-Time) Certificate is an accelerated hybrid program to develop your English language skills for personal, professional and academic purposes. This flexible program helps you meet the English language requirements for admission to George Brown Polytechnic's full-time certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, post-graduate and Bachelor’s degree programs.

George Brown Polytechnic’s English for Professional Success Certificate will give you the English language skills you need to succeed in Canada's highly competitive workplace. By polishing your verbal, listening and written communication skills, this part-time program will build your confidence in personal and professional interactions. If you’re a non-native speaker and have advanced-level English skills, this program is for you.

The General Arts and Science (One-Year) certificate program will help strengthen your skills for future academic study and entry into the workplace. Over two semesters, you’ll study a range of foundational subject areas that will help you build confidence as you develop critical thinking and information literacy skills. After graduation, you can apply to other post-secondary programs, including George Brown's R101 – a diploma program with several advanced standing pathways to a variety of university degree programs.

Academic Upgrading (A751) is a tuition-free program designed to reduce barriers to accessing and succeeding in post-secondary education. If you're a mature student who hasn't completed grade 12 and wants to obtain a certificate, diploma, or degree, then this program is for you.

Through a personalized assessment, we'll identify your strengths and areas for growth. You'll then participate in targeted learning activities to enhance your skills, which may include reading, writing, math, and/or science. We also offer individual counselling supports, along with academic and career advising.

With multiple intakes throughout the year and options for full-time or part-time study, our program is tailored to accommodate your personal needs. You'll need to complete a reading and writing assessment to make sure the program is the right fit for you and that you receive the proper placement.

Academic Upgrading for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Adults (A752) is a tuition-free program for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students who want to upgrade their English, ASL, and math for success in further education, training, or employment.

The College Vocational one-year certificate program is for students who identify mild intellectual disability or neurodiversity as a barrier to being successful in the workplace. Our inclusive program will help you develop your skills in the areas of communication, teamwork, self-awareness, self-advocacy and give you the confidence to achieve your goals. Apply to this program if you have graduated from high school with an Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) or Diploma (OSSD) and workplace credits.

Construction Craft Worker (A106) is a free 18-week supported education program for students who identify mental health and/or addictions challenges as a barrier to education and employment. In a hands-on, small group setting, with experiential work opportunities and job-coaching support, you'll develop the skills you need for entry-level work in Toronto's construction industry. 

This program was developed in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and is unique in Canada.

George Brown Polytechnic’s Culinary Skills (A110) is a free, supportive program designed to help those who face mental health or addiction challenges reach their education and employment goals. We'll prepare you for entry-level work in Toronto's food service industry through a combination of small-group learning, job coaching support, and experiential work opportunities.

George Brown Polytechnic’s Human Services Foundations (A113) is a two-semester program designed to kick-start your career journey. In a supportive learning environment, you will strengthen your academic skills and be ready for an entry-level role in human services or further education in a variety of human services-related diploma programs. You will study sociology and psychology and improve your communication and teamwork skills, while understanding how systemic issues affect individuals and communities. Together with classmates, you'll explore personal and professional goals and career pathway options for a successful career in human services.

George Brown Polytechnic's Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees one-year certificate program paves the way for your success in advanced diploma and degree-level health science programs.

In our nurturing learning environment, you'll uncover the many possibilities that the world of health sciences offers. We'll guide you in mapping out your educational pathway, ensuring that you're on track to achieve your career goals. 

Please note: If you're aiming to fulfill the admission prerequisites needed to apply to a one-year certificate or two-year diploma health sciences program, apply to our Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas (A109) program.

Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Certificates and Diplomas is a one-year program that will prepare you for admission to a variety of Health Sciences certificate and diploma programs, including our Practical Nursing (S121) program. You’ll take courses in biology, chemistry, applied math, communications, career readiness preparation and general electives. You’ll also benefit from the support of a pathway specialist who will help you navigate college and create a realistic action plan for the next steps in your education. 

Please Note: If you’re interested in pursuing a three-year advanced diploma or four-year degree program at the college or university level, you should apply to our Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (A108) program.

Transitions to Post-Secondary Education (A107) is a free, supportive, three-semester program that helps those who face mental health or addictions challenges reach their education and employment goals.

The Dental Assisting program provides the education required to work as a certified dental assistant (Levels I and II). As a student in this program, you will develop the skills, technical knowledge and clinical experience necessary to work in a professional, ethical and collaborative manner in a variety of settings.

The Dental Office Administration program will teach you the administrative skills and clinical knowledge needed to work effectively in a dental practice. You’ll also get ample hands-on experience off-site with a dental partner, so you’ll be ready to work upon graduation.

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) program will teach you the skills required to provide or assist with personal care for the elderly, the chronically ill and persons with accessibility challenges. These patients may live in the community, in long-term care facilities or in select ambulatory care settings.

Classes for this two-semester program are held at our state-of-the-art Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences at Waterfront Campus and are scheduled between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. Students can expect to participate in unpaid faculty-supervised clinical practicums that take place in various settings across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Shift hours may vary between day and/or evenings depending upon the practice setting and may start as early as 6:30 a.m.

The one-semester Personal Support Worker Pathway to Practical Nursing program prepares Personal Support Worker (PSW) graduates for entry into the Practical Nursing (PN) program. This full-time program focuses on strengthening the academic skills required by the PN program.
