George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
The Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) provides leadership in the development, administration, and continuous renewal of George Brown’s academic policy framework. This work ensures that academic policies and practices are integrated, transparent, and aligned with institutional priorities, supporting principled and consistent academic decision-making across the institution.
Through collaborative, institution-wide processes, the OAE leads academic policy development, analysis, and revision to address emerging academic issues and support effective academic operations. The OAE identifies academic policy priorities in response to institutional needs, regulatory requirements, and evolving academic practices, ensuring that policies remain current, relevant, and effective.
The OAE also promotes awareness and consistent application of academic policies, standards, and best practices, serving as an expert resource to the George Brown community in the interpretation and application of academic policy. In addition, the OAE administers the institution’s academic appeals process, supporting fairness, transparency, and integrity in academic decision-making.
