Program Description
Program Overview
Do you want to work with software and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies but are not sure where to start? With the Computer Foundations – Applied AI Solutions one-year certificate program, you’ll develop or strengthen the essential computing, programming and mathematical skills needed for advanced studies or to pursue entry-level career opportunities.
Full Description
AI is changing how software is developed, how information is analyzed, and how organizations solve problems. Success in this rapidly evolving field begins with a strong understanding of programming, mathematics, data, and computer systems.
In the Computer Foundations – Applied AI Solutions (T198) one-year certificate program, you’ll build the essential technical and problem-solving skills needed to begin working with modern software and AI technologies. The program is designed for learners who want to establish or strengthen their computing background before progressing into more advanced technology studies or pursuing entry-level opportunities.
Its integrated curriculum builds programming, web, database, operating-system, and mathematics skills while introducing students to the technical foundations that underpin modern AI solutions.
Through hands-on courses, you’ll develop skills in the following:
- Programming logic
- Object-oriented software development using Python
- Web and full-stack development
- Database management
- Linux operating systems
You’ll also learn how computer hardware, software, and networks work together to support reliable applications and digital services.
Mathematics courses will strengthen your algebraic, graphical, and analytical reasoning. You’ll work with number systems, equations, functions, trigonometry and vectors, building mathematical skills that support programming, data analysis and future study of machine learning.
Throughout the program, you’ll apply technical concepts to practical problems, develop and test software, work with structured data and communicate your solutions clearly. You’ll also build professional learning habits and gain experience using tools and practices used in contemporary software-development environments.
After completing the program, you’ll have a broad foundation in computing and applied problem solving. You’ll be prepared to pursue further education in Computer Programming – AI Solutions (T199) or other programs involving programming, software development, data and emerging technologies.
Career & Postgraduate Study Opportunities
Industry
Software, data and artificial intelligence technologies are used across business, government, health care, finance, manufacturing, transportation, media and other sectors. Organizations need people who understand the computing foundations that support these technologies, including programming, databases, web applications, operating systems and mathematical problem-solving.
The Computer Foundations – Applied AI Solutions program responds to this need by helping students develop broad technical knowledge that can support further education and entry-level work in technology environments. Students gain practical experience with Python programming, web development, databases, Linux and computer systems while developing the mathematical and problem-solving skills required for continued study in programming, data and artificial intelligence.
Educational Pathways
Graduates of the Computer Foundations – Applied AI Solutions certificate program may continue their education in diploma programs such as:
- T141 — Computer Systems Technician
- T190 — Computer Systems Technology
- T186 — Computer Programming
- T189 — Computer Programming – Low Code
- T177 — Computer Programming and Analysis
- T194 — Game Programming
- T199 — Computer Programming - AI Solutions
After completing an eligible diploma or advanced diploma, graduates may pursue further educational pathways into degree programs in areas such as information technology, computer science, software development, data analytics, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence or related disciplines. Admission, transfer credit and advanced-standing opportunities are determined by the receiving program or institution.
