Program Description
Program Overview
The Solar Panel Installer Certificate program provides an introduction to the fundamentals of solar PV installation. Students will gain the skills, expertise and confidence to complete both residential and commercial solar panel installation projects.
The online Solar Panel Installer Certificate is an open-enrolment program with no predetermined time limits. That means you can start at your convenience and finish at your own pace.
Full Description
International Students
This online distance program does not qualify for study/work permit (including PGWP) eligibility in Canada. This online distance program is only available to study while remaining in your home country.
The Solar Panel Installer Certificate program provides a basic introduction to Solar photovoltaic (PV) and the renewable energy field, focusing on the practical aspects of sizing and installing solar PV systems. This program is designed for students with little or no background in electricity or electronics.
One of the main learning features of the Solar Panel Installer program is the complete integration of laboratory experiments and projects within the presentation of Solar theory This is accomplished through simulation software that simulates the behavior of electronic circuits and devices used in solar energy systems such as batteries, battery banks, converters, inverters, automatic transfer switches, solar arrays and other components used in solar power generation and storage.
Students who enroll in the program receive a licensed copy of CircuitLogix, a leading commercially available simulator that includes both 2d and 3d circuit simulation tools. The simulation allows students to learn how to install solar power systems safely.
The Solar Panel Installer Certificate enables students to learn at their own pace, studying, experimenting, and taking final exams as their schedule allows. While the average completion time is approximately 14 weeks of part-time study, there are no fixed schedules for completion. This flexibility allows you to progress through the content at your own pace. Each module concludes with an online final exam
The program is presented in 7 modules, each containing text, animations, mini audio lectures, illustrations, review questions, online resources, over 50 pre-built lab projects and practice exams.
Prerequisites
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (with credits at or above the general level) or equivalent, or mature student status. An electronics background is helpful but not essential.
Advanced Standing
Once you have finished the Solar Panel Installer Certificate program, you are exempt from 7 modules of the Solar Energy Technician program.
