What types of college events outside the classroom can interpreting or computerized notetaking requests be made for?

Services can be requested for both class-related activities such as meetings with professors, program coordinators or group work, as well as George Brown events and college activities, such as:

  • Appointments with financial aid, registrar, etc.
  • Tutoring sessions
  • Career workshops
  • Student association events
  • Varsity events

Academic requests and class schedules are prioritized. Every effort is made to fill requests however, service cannot be guaranteed as it is dependent on service availability.

How do I book an interpreter or computerized notetaker for services outside the classroom?

To access an Interpreter, Intervenor or Computerized Notetaker for accommodations outside of the classroom, such as pre-admission appointments, information sessions, admission/placement testing, group meetings or college events, please fill in the Request Form.

How much notice is needed to request service?

Request for classroom accommodations should be made at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Request for accommodations outside of the classroom, such as pre-admission appointments, information sessions, admission/placement testing, group meetings or college events should be submitted at least 5 business days prior to the assignment/event.

Last-minute requests will be considered and every effort will be made to secure services.

How do I cancel services?

Please send an email directly to the Scheduling Coordinator to cancel service.

Are the interpreters qualified?

Only interpreters who have graduated from an accredited interpreter training program are contracted to provide service at George Brown College. The interpreters are members of the Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) and adhere to their Code of Ethics.
