How to Prepare for your Counselling Appointment
- Arrive on time to your appointment and ensure you have appropriate time in your schedule to attend. Appointments can be up to 60 minutes in length.
- Please arrive 5 minutes before the start of your appointment for the check-in process. This ensures you have more time for your counselling appointment.
- Provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If two appointments in a row are missed or cancelled without proper notice, further requests for appointment bookings with a counsellor will be referred to the counselling team coordinators and/or manager to ensure effective use of counselling resources. Thank you for your cooperation.
- If you are more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, you may be asked to reschedule for another day/time.
Additional tips for virtual appointments
- To check in to your appointment and access the appointment via Zoom, please go to the Counselling Student Portal on the Counselling website. You can check-in up to 10 minutes prior to your appointment. You may be asked to complete a pre-visit questionnaire or survey. Once this is complete, you will be able to join the Zoom session.
- If you log into the session 15 minutes past the start time of our session, the Student Portal will not let you join the session and you may need to reschedule.
- Ensure you have a device that can connect to the internet. You should have a working microphone for your appointment. Our virtual services are set up to only offer sessions via Zoom. If telephone or another platform is preferred, we can recommend other services for you. If you have safety or privacy concerns with respect to being on camera through Zoom, please tell your counsellor when you meet with them or message us through the portal.
- Please treat this appointment like you would any other in-person meeting so appropriate attire and your physical location are important.
- Find a private/confidential space where you feel comfortable for your appointment. Having a session while you are in a moving vehicle or walking/sitting in public is not appropriate.
