Program Description:

This post-diploma training program offered by George Brown College’s School of Early Childhood will strengthen the capacity of early childhood educators, teachers and supervisors to respond to children with special needs.

The course will enhance participants’ awareness of community resources available to support them in the inclusion of children with special needs.

The curriculum reflects a philosophy of inclusive treatment of children with special needs in early childhood settings. The training will consist of a combination of theory and case-based applications.

Participants will develop a better understanding of the needs of children with special needs and will be better equipped to develop and implement programs to meet these needs.

A significant component of the training will focus on the behavioural area of special needs and developing an individual Program Plan.

  • Strategies for working with community partners

Participating centres will benefit from having Registered Early Childhood Educators who are better able to support the individual needs of children in the context of their centre/school.

How to Qualify and Apply

This program is designed for Registered Early Childhood Educators, teachers and supervisors from community-based centres, and Registered Early Childhood Educators and teachers from full day kindergarten programs.

Students will be required to be working directly with children in order to be able to complete the Individual Program Plan assignment.
