Biography

Andrea Rankin is a Coordinator and Instructor at The School of English as a Second Language. She has worked at George Brown College since 2005. Before working at GBC, Andrea taught a variety of ESL/ EFL and education classes at Seneca College and The University of Toronto in Toronto, Sogang Language Institute at Sogang University in South Korea, Rajabhat Institute Nakhon Sawan (renamed Nakhon Sawan Rajabhat University) in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand and Huaygalok Refugee Camp outside of Mae Sot, Thailand.  Andrea continued her international work teaching with two GBC partners in Shanghai and Guilin, China. As well as teaching, she has organized and run multiple English camps in Thailand, co-hosted an English language learning television program in South Korea and has collaborated with colleagues over the years to create and develop multi-media teaching materials. Her graduate work focused on teachers’ experiences and attitudes towards curriculum change. Andrea has presented at TESL conferences in Thailand and in Ontario.

She holds a Master of Applied Linguistics degree from York University, a Bachelor of Education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English degree from St. Francis Xavier University and a TESL certificate from Woodsworth College, U of T.
