Centre for Business Awards and Scholarships

To be considered for any of the awards listed below students must be enrolled full-time in a program within the Centre for Business. Students can apply by selecting In-Course Scholarships through STU-VIEW during the winter awards portal window.

5 to Watch Achievement Award

GBC School of Marketing has donated funds for the establishment of the 5 to Watch Achievement Award. The award is available to students in the B120, B108 or B158, B400, B406, B409, B413 programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must display financial need

Al Roissl Leadership in Financial Planning Award

Investview financial Inc. has donated funds for the establishment of the Al Roissl Leadership in Financial Planning Award. The award is available to full time domestic students in the B301 and B302 programs.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must display leadership qualities

Anne Sado Award for Women in Business Scholarship

Donna Harris has donated funds for the establishment of Anne Sado Award for Women in Business Scholarship. The award is available to all female students in any Business program in any year of study.
*Preference will be given to a First generation female student
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need

Apex Public Relations Scholarship

Apex Public Relations has donated funds for the establishment of the Apex Public Relations Scholarship. The award is available to domestic students in any Business program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be involved in the Institute of Entrepreneurship and Community Innovation Program

BMO Sports Marketing Award

Bank of Montreal has donated funds for the establishment of the BMO Sports Marketing Award. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study, who show excellent understanding of the sports marketing industry.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must exhibit strong interpersonal and job related skills with enthusiasm, a positive attitude and respect
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

Centre for Business 2016-2017 Expendable Awards

Centre for Business has donated funds for the establishment of the Centre for Business 2016-2017 Expendable Awards. The award is available to students in any Business program in any year of study
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The student must demonstrate strong academic performance
  • The student must display excellent leadership skills

Centre for Business Scholarship

Faculty of Business, Arts and Design has donated funds for the establishment of the Centre for Business Scholarship. The award is available to domestic students in any Business program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external) and display commitment to working with others.

CFL Achievement Award

Canadian Football League has donated funds for the establishment of the CFL Achievement Award. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study, who show excellent understanding of the sports marketing industry.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • Student must demonstrate leadership qualities through volunteerism and participation in sports-related activities; exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in teams
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

CIBC Financial Services Scholarships

CIBC has donated funds for the establishment of the CIBC Financial Services Scholarships. The award is available to students in the B301, B407 or B150 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Highest GPA in the 4th semester
  • The student must receive an excellent feedback from the students’ co-op work term employer
  • The student must be actively involved in in GBC activities related to the area

CoreNet Canada Award

CoreNet Canada has donated funds for the establishment of the CoreNet Canada Award. The award is available to domestic students in the BB4102 course in their 4th year.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need
  • Student must display potential for leadership through the building of excellent team spirit and by setting an example for others

Dean's Award of Excellence

Faculty has donated funds for the establishment of the Dean’s Award. The award is available to graduating students in any Business and Financial services programs.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

Debbie Simon Award for Excellence in Human Resources

Home Trust Company/Home Capitol Group Inc. has donated funds for the establishment of the Debbie Simon Award for Excellence in Human Resources. The award is available to students in the B144, B154 or B408 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)
  • Student must demonstrate cooperation, teamwork and leadership skills and commitment to area of study

Dr. Robin Yap Student Bursary

Dr. Robin Yap had donated funds for the establishment of Dr. Robin Yap Student Bursary. The bursary is available to students enrolled in Centre for Business programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • The award is available to students who identify themselves as any of these: LGBTTQQIAP (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Assexual and Pansexual)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must demonstrate leadership qualities through LGBT-related community involvement in or out of school

Elio Pacheco Passion to Succeed Award

Elio Pacheco has donated funds for the establishment of the Elio Pacheco Passion to Succeed Award. The award is available to domestic students in the B145 and B155 programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)
  • The award is available to students who demonstrate leadership and an entrepreneurial approach to their course work and extracurricular activities

George Brown College Alumni Award for Business

GBC Alumni has donated funds for the establishment of the George Brown College Alumni Award for Business. The award is available to students in all BFS programs in their first year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

George Brown College Human Resources Department Award

Leslie Quinlan, GBC Human Resources, has donated funds for the establishment of the George Brown College Human Resources Department Award. The award is available to students in the B144 and B154 programs in their second year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must demonstrate leadership qualities and contribute to the classroom learning environment

Leslie Quinlan, GBC Human Resources, has donated funds for the establishment of the George Brown College Human Resources Department Recruitment & Selection Award. The award is available to students in the B144 and B154 programs in their second year of study.


George Brown College Human Resources Department Workplace Health & Safety Award

Leslie Quinlan, GBC Human Resources, has donated funds for the establishment of the George Brown College Human Resources Department Workplace Health & Safety Award. The award is available to students in the B144 and B154 programs in their third year of study.
 

George Brown College Human Resources Department Workplace Ready Award  

Nancy Hood, GBC Human Resources, has donated funds for the establishment of the George Brown College Human Resources Department Workplace Ready Award. The award is available to students in the B408 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Student must demonstrate an integration of classroom learning and professionalism in the workplace

Hans Schafer Financial Services Award

The Hans Schafer Financial Services Award is available to students in the Business-School of Financial Services programs in their third year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0    
  • Student must show demonstrated understanding of the financial services industry
  • The student must be actively involved in the GBC Community

HR Graduate Certificate Scholarship

Leslie Quinlan, GBC Human Resources, has donated funds for the establishment of the HR Graduate Certificate Scholarship. The award is available to domestic students in the B408 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • Student must demonstrate job-related social skills including positive attitude, enthusiasm and respect; be self-motivated and passionate about learning

Hubert and Eulalee King Scholarship

Kevin King has donated funds for the establishment of the Hubert and Eulalee King Scholarship. The award is available to students in the B108 and B158 programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)
  • Student must display leadership and organizational skills

Kale Garner Award For Excellence In Financial Planning

The Kale Garner Award for Excellence in Financial Planning is available to domestic students in the B407 programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must be actively involved in the classroom environment and exhibit leadership skills, a team approach and a passion for financial planning

Laurel Walzak Woman in Sport Award

Laurel Walzak has donated funds for the establishment of the Laurel Walzak Woman in Sport Award. The award is available to graduating students in the B400 programs. Preference will be given to female student.

Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation - Sport and Event Marketing Award

Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation has donated funds for the establishment of the Michael "Pinball" Clemons Foundation - Sport and Event Marketing Award. The award is available to domestic students in the B400 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must demonstrate they have overcome obstacles to undertake their studies at GBC

MLSE Award of Excellence

Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd has donated funds for the establishment of the MLSE Award of Excellence. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must show aptitude for the sport, entertainment and event marketing industries and exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
      

Peter Marlatt Scholarship

Manulife Financial on Behalf of Peter Marlatt has donated funds for the establishment of the Peter Marlatt Scholarship. The award is available to domestic students in all Financial Services programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • Student must show strong potential and academic proficiency

Scotiabank Endowment for the School of Business

Scotiabank has donated funds for the establishment of the Scotiabank Endowment for the School of Business. The award is available to domestic students in all BFS programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

SDI Sport & Event Marketing

SDI Marketing has donated funds for the establishment of the SDI Sport & Event Marketing award. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 
  • The student must display passion for and understanding of sports, events and sponsorship marketing and exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, creativity and a can-do attitude

The Love & Whalen Leadership Award

James Love and Ross Whalen have donated funds for the establishment of the the Love & Whalen Leadership Award. The award is available to domestic students in all Business programs in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Student must display financial need

The Scott Hulbert Leadership Award

Scott Hulbert has donated funds for the establishment of the Scott Hulbert Leadership Award. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

Toron Scholarship

Toron Investment Management has donated funds for the establishment of the Toron Scholarship. The award is available to domestic students in the B301 and B321 programs in their fourth year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.34
  • Student must display financial need
  • The student must be actively involved in the Community (college and/or external)

TSN Award of Excellence

TSN has donated funds for the establishment of the TSN Award of Excellence. The award is available to students in the B400 program in any year of study.
The following criteria must be met by the applicant:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • The student must show excellent understanding of the sports marketing industry and exhibit strong job-related skills with enthusiasm, a positive attitude and respect
