We encourage employers to compensate students for their time and talent that they bring forward in their work-term placement positions. Please also note, employers who hire from our bachelor’s degree programs must provide students with a paid, hourly wage, position. Please see below for the many funding opportunities that employers can seek to help with funding your student hire.
Magnet (& Campus Connect)
The Magnet Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) brings together employers, students, and post-secondary school stakeholders to create quality work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities.
The program provides employers with wage subsidies to hire post-secondary students for paid work experiences. Students, in turn, benefit from quality work experience so they can secure employment in their chosen fields of study.

Technation (formerly ITAC)
An eligible employer must be willing to provide a quality work experience in a role which immerses a student in the use of technology. Tech and non-tech-focused organizations are encouraged to apply.

Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC)
Funding opportunities for organizations within the following industries: Fintech, Entertainment and Gaming, Cyber Security etc. ICTC will accept applications from non-STEM business students as well.

Venture Canada Pre-Approval Process
Electricity Human Resources Canada (EHRC)
Employers are eligible if they meet the following criteria:
- Firms whose primary activity is the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.
- Sector support, including renewables, in any of the following areas: R&D, business development, and energy efficiency.
- Firms engaged in the manufacturing of equipment and the provision of services necessary for generation, transmission or distribution.
- Post-secondary institutions (universities, colleges or polytechnics).

Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) Canada
Provides 50% of a wage up to $5,000 to employers who hire the brightest minds in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) and Business into a role within the environmental sector.
Availability: 1500 placements for the whole year (Summer, Fall & Winter). Contact for updated availability.

Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR)
The Mining Industry Human Resources Council’s (MiHR) Gearing Up program provides a wage subsidy up to $7,000 to mining employers who create new mining-related work-integrated learning (WIL) opportunities for post-secondary students in STEM and Business programs to better position them for future employment in their field of study - including engineering, exploration, geology, environmental studies, extraction and milling, support services, manufacturing and fabrication, to name a few.
