The Tommy Douglas Institute at George Brown College teamed up with independent media organization Rabble.ca to launch a six-part podcast series that explores environmental, economic and social sustainability amid COVID-19.

The Courage My Friends podcast launched on May 26. A new episode will be released every Wednesday until June 30. Guests on the podcast include former federal NDP leader and Chair of the Broadbent Institute Ed Broadbent, anti-poverty activist John Clarke, and activist and author Dr. Vandana Shiva.

“As we stand at the intersection of capitalism, the climate crisis and now COVID-19, the Courage My Friends podcast offers listeners an opportunity to become part of a conversation that addresses the critical issues facing us at this time of reckoning, redress and (hopefully) renewal,” George Brown College faculty member and podcast host Reshma Budhu said.

“The podcast brings together thinkers, activists, policy-makers and those working on the frontlines to share their understanding and analysis of this unique moment, visions for a future worth fighting for and the steps we need to start taking now.”

The Tommy Douglas Institute provides a public space where educational and wider communities gather to explore critical issues. It also aims to investigate future possibilities that include social, economic and environmental sustainability. It’s releasing the podcast series in place of its annual event.

“The Courage My Friends podcast allows us to grow our community and expand the conversation by providing yet another (and more accessible) venue for emerging analysis of our current moment and exciting possibilities for the future,” Budhu said.

"Ideally, the Courage My Friends podcast will become a fixture of the Tommy Douglas Institute, along with our annual in-person conference and other TDI events."
