MAINSTAGE Blood Wedding

About the Play

Blood Wedding is a play about desiring what we cannot have. Written by Federico Garcia Lorca in 1933, it is subtitled “A Tragedy in 3 Acts and 7 Scenes.” Everything in the play is focused on the wedding; Act 1 before the wedding, Act 2 the wedding itself, Act 3 after the wedding. Simple.

Sue Miner adapted the play in 2016 for 14 actors expanding the characters and scenes while hoping to maintain the simplicity intended. At the core of it is the original play but with additional dialogue that is taken directly from Garcia Lorca’s poetry, letters and in some cases gently lifted from Yerma, another one of his plays.
