Funding for your Opportunity Abroad

George Brown College is committed to providing you with financial assistance for your participation in global mobility programs. Scholarships and bursaries are available to you if you are a full-time student in an academic program. See below for eligibility details and requirements.

Scotiabank International Education Scholarship

George Brown College is pleased to offer the Scotiabank International Education Scholarship (Outbound) for students completing an approved global mobility experience as part of their academic program at George Brown College. This scholarship is intended to provide those with demonstrated financial need the opportunity to access the college’s global learning programs. Each year there will be a limited number of scholarships available.

Value

Ranging from $500 CAD to $2,000 CAD and limited to travel to the Americas, East Asia, and India.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time at George Brown College or a recent graduate (within six months of graduation)
  • Be in fulfillment of course or program requirements
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 program GPA
  • Have demonstrated financial need as assessed by the Awards Office
  • Have not received a Scotiabank International Education Scholarship (Outbound) in the period of Apr 1st - Mar 31st of each year

Considerations

  • Scholarships awarded will be applied towards any outstanding balance on your STU-View account. Any remaining funds will be awarded by cheque and will be mailed to the local home address on your STU-View account
  • Priority will be given to students who have not received a Scotiabank International Scholarship (Outbound) in previous years
  • Scholarships are to supplement your expenses and not cover the total costs.
  • If you do not successfully complete your global mobility program, you will have your scholarship revoked through your STU-View account
  • You must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) or an Individual Tax Number (ITN). All scholarship recipients will receive a T4A for income tax purposes

Global Mobility Bursary

The Global Mobility Bursary is for current full-time students or recent graduates participating in a George Brown College approved study, work or professional development program abroad as part of the college’s commitment to providing global learning opportunities to students. This bursary is intended to provide those with the demonstrated financial need the opportunity to access the college’s global learning programs.

Value

Ranging from $500 CAD up to $2,000 CAD and dependent on your travel destination.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled full-time at George Brown College or a recent graduate (within six months of graduation)
  • Be in fulfillment of course or program requirements
  • Be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 program GPA
  • Awarded to students based on both financial need and academic merit
  • Have not received a Global Mobility Bursary in the period of Apr 1st - Mar 31st of each year

Considerations

  • Scholarships awarded will be applied towards any outstanding balance on your STU-View account. Any remaining funds will be awarded by cheque and will be mailed to the local home address on your STU-View account
  • Scholarships are to supplement your expenses and not cover the total costs
  • Students are eligible to apply for a maximum of two (2) bursaries over the course of their studies at George Brown College. Priority will be given to first time applicants
  • If you do not successfully complete your global mobility program, you will have your scholarship revoked through your STU-View account
  • You must have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) or an Individual Tax Number (ITN). All scholarship recipients will receive a T4A for income tax purposes

How to apply for a Scholarship

  • Complete the budget and application form
  • Provide a copy of flight invoice or ticket detail costs (if not available, please provide a quote of the flight)

Application Deadline

  • Applications will not be processed later than 90 days prior to anticipated travel departure date. No exemption to the deadline will be made.
  • Submit completed application form and all supporting documentation to the International Centre at globalmobility@georgebrown.ca
