Program Overview

The Business Administration – Accounting (with work experience) three-year advanced diploma at George Brown College in Toronto provides you with the knowledge and skills required to perform a range of complex accounting functions, including financial analysis, planning and control as well as using analytical and evaluation skills to support management functions, and collaborating in the design of an organization's internal control systems. The program includes auditing, corporate taxation, law and strategic management. This learning experience will enable you to build and demonstrate the skills you need to work in the field of accounting.

The Business Administration – Accounting (with work experience) three-year advanced diploma in Toronto provides you with the knowledge and skills required to perform a range of complex accounting functions, including financial analysis, planning and control as well as using analytical and evaluation skills to support management functions, and collaborating in the design of an organization's internal control systems. The program includes auditing, corporate taxation, law and strategic management.

This learning experience will enable you to build and demonstrate:

  • proficiency in spreadsheets, databases and accounting software programs
  • essential communication skills for advising business owners and managers on business decisions
  • ability to perform accounting transactions in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

This program (B157) is offered with work experience. Students wishing to apply for Business Administration – Accounting without work experience should apply to B107.

Your Field Education Options

Work experience (co-op and internship)

This program requires the successful completion of two semesters of work experience to graduate. This work experience is either co-op (paid) or internship (unpaid). Either one will give you the practical experience employers value.

George Brown works with employers and industry partners to identify potential work experience opportunities. Students are also strongly encouraged to pursue self-directed industry work experience opportunities they believe will provide the learning experiences they value and meet the learning outcomes of the program.

This valuable work experience can, in turn, be added to your resumé.

Educational Pathways

Graduates of the Business Administration – Accounting advanced diploma may be eligible for advanced standing in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) program at George Brown. For information on additional future study options, see our transfer guide.

Degree Transfer Option

Graduates of the Advanced Accounting Diploma (B107/B157) who have a minimum Program GPA of 3.0 may be eligible to transfer into Semester 5 of the Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) with a specialization in Accounting (B322). Block Transfer students are granted a minimum of 20, up to a maximum of 25 credits towards their degree program.

If you are a B107/B157 graduate who is interested in transferring to B322, but do not meet the GPA standard for transfer, you may be eligible to upgrade.

The B107 program is accredited by ACCA until December 30th, 2022. Graduates of B107 before this date are entitled to the following exemptions:

  • Business and Technology (BT)
  • Management Accounting (MA)
  • Financial Accounting (FA)
  • Corporate and Business Law (LW)

 

  • All foundation papers.

Note: The requirements for each designation/certification are set by the granting body, not George Brown College. In order to qualify for these designations/certifications, you need to follow the process listed on its websites and meet all the requirements applicable to you.

Opportunities exist for three-year Accounting or Financial Services diploma students to enter the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) program through an articulation agreement.
