The Business – Accounting two-year diploma program teaches students fundamental accounting concepts and practices, as well as broad-based business skills. As a graduate of this program, you can look forward to an exciting career in dynamic business sectors like merchandising, government offices, financial institutions and manufacturing.
Full Description
The Business – Accounting two-year diploma program equips you with the skills you need to launch a successful career in the accounting field. You’ll gain practical knowledge of accounting application software, spreadsheets and databases, economics, communications, law and taxation and more.
Here are some skills you’ll be able to show off after completion of the Business – Accounting program:
- processing common business transactions
- preparing and presenting financial reports
- developing financial budgets and plans
- analyzing operating performance
- providing basic tax planning for individuals

Earn Your College Credential from a Business School Accredited by ACBSP
Fourteen programs at the Centre for Business have earned international recognition from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Advanced diploma and diploma programs at the Schools of Accounting and Finance, Human Resources, Management, and Marketing and the Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) program at the School of Accounting and Finance have ACBSP accreditation. George Brown is now one of only two colleges in Ontario to have earned ACBSP accreditation.

Educational Pathways
This two-year diploma has a pathway to the Business Administration – Accounting B107/B157 three-year advanced diploma.
Degree Transfer Option
Graduates of the Business Administration – Accounting diploma may be eligible to transfer into the Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) program. Eligibility will be assessed based on completion of the entire program, individual courses, and/or program GPA. For more information, please contact either:

The B103 program is accredited by ACCA until December 30, 2028. Graduates of B103 before this date are entitled to the following exemptions:
- Business and Technology (BT)
- Management Accounting (MA)
- Financial Accounting (FA)
- Corporate and Business Law (LW).
Note: The requirements for each designation/certification are set by the granting body, not George Brown College. In order to qualify for these designations/certifications, you need to follow the process listed on its websites and meet all the requirements applicable to you.

Courses
Required Courses
In order to graduate from the B103 program, you need to complete 25Courses: 22 mandatory Courses and 3 General Education electives.
Depending on the results of your placement tests, you may be required to take COMM 1000 Introduction to College Communication before progressing to COMM 2000. Similarly, you may be required to take MATH 1027 Business Math with Remediation before progressing to MATH 1191. COMM 1000 and MATH 1027 do not count toward the 25 Courses required for graduation, and you will be charged for these extra Courses. Please speak to the Business Office staff if you need any assistance.
General Education Courses (Semesters 2, 3 and 4): You must complete three General Education Courses chosen from at least two of the following categories: Social Sciences (GSSC), Arts and Humanities (GHUM) or Science and Technology (GSCI).
You are required to make up any failed or dropped Courses before you are eligible to graduate. You can make up these Courses during the day, and some are offered in the evening through Continuing Education. Please check with the business office staff to ensure that the Continuing Education Courses are equivalent to what is taught in the full-time program. Note that some Courses may not be offered in every Semester. Our staff can assist you with any special timetable requirements you may have.

The graduate demonstrates the ability to:
- Record financial transactions in compliance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for sole proprietorships, partnerships, private enterprises, publicly accountable enterprises and nonprofit organizations.
- Prepare and present financial statements, reports and other documents in compliance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for sole proprietorships, partnerships and private enterprises.
- Contribute to recurring decision-making by applying fundamental management accounting concepts.
- Prepare individuals’ income tax returns and basic tax planning in compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Analyze organizational structures, the interdependence of functional areas, and the impact those relationships can have on financial performance.
- Analyze, within a Canadian context, the impact of economic variables, legislation, ethics, technological advances and the environment on an organization’s operations.
- Outline the elements of an organization’s internal control system and risk management.
- Contribute to recurring decision-making by applying fundamental financial management concepts.

Admission Requirements
Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic achievement, including the required courses, and any other selection criteria outlined below.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent**
- grade 12 English (C or U)
- grade 11 Math (C, M or U) or grade 12 (C or U)

Mature students may take the Admissions Assessment for English and Math, OR may consider upgrading to achieve the credit(s) needed in English and Math.
