Program Overview

The one-semester Personal Support Worker Pathway to Practical Nursing program prepares Personal Support Worker (PSW) graduates for entry into the Practical Nursing (PN) program. Created and designed by the Sally Horsfall Eaton School of Nursing faculty, this 252-hour program is offered full-time at approximately 18 hours per week.

Full Description

Personal Support Worker Pathway to Practical Nursing is a one-semester program that prepares Personal Support Worker (PSW) graduates for entry into the Practical Nursing (PN) program.

This program is designed to strengthen the core academic skills required of a practical nurse and focuses on:

  • biology
  • chemistry
  • mathematics
  • health and wellness
  • English language skills
  • interprofessional relationships

Created and designed by the Sally Horsfall Eaton School of Nursing faculty, this 252-hour program is 14 weeks long. Classes are held at the Daphne Cockwell Centre for Health Sciences located at the Waterfront Campus, and are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

Please note: There is no clinical placement component to this program.

Career Options

This program prepares PSW students for further study in the Practical Nursing program by enhancing core knowledge in sciences, math, humanities, communications and English.

Educational Pathways

Graduates of this program who fulfill all course requirements and achieve a program grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher may be eligible for the Practical Nursing (S121) full-time program at George Brown College.

Eligible students completing S119 in December will start S121 in January, and eligible students completing S119 in April will start S121 in September.

It is the responsibility of students transferring into S121 to ensure they meet all special requirements for S121 by the deadlines provided, including police vulnerable sector checks and submission of health records. More information can be found on the Practical Nursing (S121) program page.
