The construction industry is one of Canada’s largest employers, and the demand for construction managers continues to grow. Our three-year Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma program will provide you with the technical, business, and interpersonal skills needed to manage construction projects of varying sizes and levels of complexity, while emphasizing sustainable construction practices.

In the three-year Construction Engineering Technology (T105) advanced diploma program, you’ll gain an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry, including:
- methods and materials of construction
- construction estimating
- construction law, contracts and bidding
- project management and control
- construction graphics and detailing
This program shares the first four semesters with the two-year Construction Engineering Technician diploma program. Semesters 5 & 6 prepare you for a wider range of career options in the construction sector. This three-year program equips you for positions with higher levels of responsibility and accountability in areas such as construction planning, project management, site superintendent roles, estimating, budget and bid preparation, and sustainable building science and engineering studies.
*If you enroll in January, you must complete semester 2 during May to August of the same year to continue into semester 3 in the fall.
Program Specific Computer Requirements
Laptop and Internet Specifications
Students should have a Windows-based laptop capable of running construction management, CAD, BIM, scheduling, estimating, document control, and project co-ordination software. The laptop should include a 64-bit version of Windows 11 Pro, a current generation Intel Core i7/Core Ultra 7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB NVMe solid state drive, and a dedicated NIVIDIA RTX graphics card with 6 GB or more video memory. A 15.6-inch or larger full-HD anti-glare display is required, with Wi-Fi 6 or better connectivity and support for an external monitor. Additionally, students should have access to at least 40 Mbps of internet service with ping times under 100 ms.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Mac laptops are not recommended because the software in this program does not run on macOS.

Program Learning Outcomes
The graduate demonstrates the ability to:
- Develop and use strategies to enhance professional growth and ongoing learning in the construction engineering field.
- Comply with workplace health and safety practices and procedures in accordance with current legislation and regulations.
- Complete duties and assist in monitoring that work is performed in compliance with contractual obligations, applicable laws, standards, bylaws, codes and ethical practices in the construction engineering field.
- Promote and carry out sustainability practices in accordance with contract documents, industry standards and environmental legislative requirements.
- Facilitate collaboration and interaction among project stakeholders to support construction engineering projects.
- Collect, process, analyze and coordinate technical data to produce written and graphical project-related documents.
- Coordinate and facilitate the collecting, processing, interpreting and application of survey/geomatics and layout information to implement construction projects.
- Select and use industry-specific electronic and digital technologies to support the design and construction of projects.
- Analyze and solve technical problems related to the design and implementation of construction projects by applying engineering concepts, technical mathematics and building science.

Program Overview
The construction industry is one of Canada’s largest employers, and the demand for construction managers continues to grow. Our three-year Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma program will provide you with the technical, business and interpersonal skills needed to manage construction projects of varying sizes and complexity, while emphasizing sustainable construction practices.
Full Description
In the three-year Construction Engineering Technology advanced diploma program, you’ll gain an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry, including:
- methods and materials of construction
- construction estimating
- construction law, contracts and bidding
- project management and control
- construction graphics and detailing
This program shares the first four semesters with the two-year Construction Engineering Technician diploma program. Semesters 5 & 6 prepare you for a wider range of career options in the construction sector. This three-year program equips you for positions with higher levels of responsibility and accountability in areas like construction planning, project management, site superintendent, estimating, budget and bid preparation, sustainable building science and engineering studies.
*If you enroll in January, you must complete semester 2 during May to August of the same year to continue into semester 3 in the fall.

The purchase of a Mac laptop is not recommended because many of the programs do not run on the Mac platform operating system.

Industry
Construction continues to drive Ontario’s economy, employing nearly 600,000 people in 2023 and contributing over $59 billion to the province’s GDP. With almost 20% of the current workforce retiring by 2034, the industry must recruit more than 140,000 new skilled workers to keep pace with growth.
With an expanding regional transit network stimulating redevelopment and growth and population and demographic shifts at the heart of a demand surge for housing, the GTA has the largest construction activity of any region in Canada. In fact, the City of Toronto continues to report the highest number of construction cranes of any city in North America.
Despite the recent challenges, the construction sector in Ontario remains strong, led by significant government investment and continued demand for housing.
The School of Construction Management Program Advisory Committee (PAC) has an engaged committee with a good and broad representation of the industry. Members contribute their ideas and opinions with respect to curriculum changes, industry trends, awards and scholarships, competitions, special events, work experience and mentoring for students.
Educational Pathways
Pathways to the Honours Bachelor of Technology (Construction Management) degree program are also available after completing the three-year Construction Engineering Technology program. Minimum of 3.0 GPA required.
