In response to the digital revolution and rapid transformation ignited by blockchain technology, George Brown College’s School of Computer Technology has distinguished itself as a pioneer, becoming the first Canadian institution to offer a certificate in Blockchain Development.

Program Overview

The one-year Blockchain Development graduate certificate program provides an in-depth understanding of blockchain technology and its applications. Using blockchain technology, you’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills to design and deploy dApps (decentralized applications). Core areas of focus include smart contract development, software and business patterns for blockchain, blockchain system development, full stack development, blockchain architecture, security practices and relevant laws and regulations.

Seeking a career pivot or aiming to augment your skill set with advanced knowledge in blockchain development? The first of its kind in Canada, our one-year Blockchain Development graduate certificate program is centred on the design and deployment of decentralized applications, leveraging blockchain technology and offering a holistic understanding of the blockchain domain.

We meticulously developed this program with the invaluable support of seasoned professionals from the blockchain industry. Using a full-time executive format, the program consists of approximately 20 hours per week of evening classes, spread over a 26-week period. This structure ensures you get a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge with hands-on, project-based learning.

Here are some skills you'll be able to show off after completing this program:

  • smart contracts
  • design patterns for blockchain
  • decentralized system development
  • full stack development and integration
  • blockchain architecture, security practices, laws and regulations and more

In your last semester, you’ll have the option to undertake a co-op work placement or work-integrated project where you’ll apply your new knowledge and skills in a practical setting. This opportunity will give you valuable real-world experience and networking opportunities with industry professionals.

You'll need to have access to a personal computer with the following specifications:

  • 8 GB minimum (16 GB RAM recommended0
  • 256 GB SSD Hard Drive (500+ GB is optimal)
  • quad-core i5/i7 2.4GHz or better
  • ability to run Ubuntu 20.04 (can be on virtual machine)
  • webcam

Your Field Education Options
