As of April 1, 2026, post-secondary international students do not need a separate co-op work permit for a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component of a program. WIL is a required component of some George Brown programs and may include placement, co-op, internship, or externship.
International students enrolled in a post-secondary program at George Brown may complete the required WIL component without a separate co-op work permit only if they meet all the following conditions:
- You have conditions printed on your initial study permit that allow you to work on-campus.
- You have a letter from George Brown that confirms the work placement is a requirement of your study program. Current international students can request the co-op letter by contacting their International Student Advisor.
- You have a valid study permit or you applied to extend your study permit before it expired.
- You’re a full-time student at George Brown.
- Your study program is at least 6 months long, at a post-secondary level, and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate.
- The work integrated learning component of your study program totals 50% or less of your study program.
