A night of culinary excellence and community impact
The 2025 Food Court Social showcased the best of Toronto's culinary scene with food stations curated by 22 acclaimed chefs, including George Brown alumni and top local talent. Guests indulged in exceptional cuisine alongside carefully selected cocktails, wine, and beer pairings, while live entertainment, a silent auction, and interactive activations set the tone for an unforgettable evening along Toronto’s sparkling waterfront.
Event co-chairs Damon Murchison, President and CEO of IG Wealth Management, and Ray Williams, retired former Vice Chairman of Financial Markets at National Bank Financial and Black Opportunity Fund co-founder, expertly served as MCs for the evening. They entertained and engaged guests and sponsors at the college’s signature fundraising event.
Culinary stars donate time and expertise
This year's impressive lineup showcased global culinary perspectives and exceptional talent. Chef Roger Mooking of Twist by Roger Mooking delighted guests with his signature style of comfort foods, while Augmented Education alumni Chef Ray Burpee demonstrated the calibre of talent the program develops. Matt Basile of Alchemy Grills wowed with flames and bold flavours, and Chef Haruna Makino of Haru’s Cuisine exhibited contemporary innovations in Japanese plant-based specialties that delighted palates.
The roster also included Chef Junelle Casalan of Castle & Coal, Chef Kory Dupucchio of Chartwells Canada, Chef Jose Hadad of Mad Mexican, Chef Rob McClelland of JOEY Restaurant Group, and Matilde Sifontes of Bar Bacan, among many others. These celebrated chefs generously donated their time and skills, creating an immersive experience that elevated the evening while supporting a meaningful cause.
Supporting life-changing education
Every dollar raised at the Food Court Social directly supports the George Brown College Augmented Education Program, a transformative initiative that has been changing lives since 2004. Developed in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), this tuition-free program provides job-focused training in Culinary Arts or Construction Craftwork to individuals overcoming mental health and addiction challenges.
The program provides comprehensive support to assist graduates in finding and maintaining employment in their chosen fields. Since its inception, the program has celebrated 605 graduates who have gained not only skills and certification but also renewed hope and opportunities.
Building a stronger community
"The Augmented Education Program embodies our belief that education is the most powerful tool for transformation," said George Brown College President Dr. Gervan Fearon. "When we invest in removing barriers and creating pathways to success, we don't just change individual lives, we strengthen families, communities, and our entire society."
Although the program receives partial government funding, annual fundraising remains crucial to ensure that this essential and innovative program can continue assisting students and strengthening the broader community.
