We developed the 32-week Automation Technician certificate program to meet the industry’s growing demand for workers with a broad set of skills and knowledge in industrial automation, including digital electronics, process control, SCADA systems, and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers and robotics. This program examines applications and examples of automated manufacturing systems, including both the theory and function of digital and industrial electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics, robotics systems, programming languages and alarm management. You’ll learn through a combination of theory and laboratory simulations using LogixSim, a simulation software suite that includes electronics, PLC and robotics simulation.

The Electromechanical Technician Certificate program provides a complete introduction to electronics and electromechanical systems. This program is often of interest to people who want to study electronics with an emphasis on mechanical systems, for example, someone coming from a millwright background. The program covers mechanical topics outside of a typical electronics program, like industrial control devices, DC and AC motors and control circuits, transformers, analog and digital transducers, industrial process control and PLCs.

Advanced Standing

If you have finished the Electronics Technician program, you are exempted from 18 modules of the Electromechanical Technician program.

This program focuses on the skills needed to assemble, install, troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment used by consumers, businesses and industry. Students learn electronics theory and how to work with circuits and the various components of electronic systems such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductors and amplifiers. The focus is on a broad understanding of the field that students can then apply to specific areas of interest or employment.

The Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Technician Certificate program provides the basic technical skills and knowledge necessary to work with programmable logic control systems typically found in an industrial/manufacturing environment. The program covers the operation of various PLC control systems, including both discrete and analog control devices. The simulation software, PLCLogix 500, which is included with the program, simulates the Rockwell RSLogix 500 series of PLCs.

If you have finished the PLC Technician II program, you are exempted from 7 modules of the PLC Technician program.

The PLC Technician II Certificate program introduces the theory behind Programmable Logic Controllers while maintaining an emphasis on the application of PLCs in plant and manufacturing systems. The PLC Technician II program provides a more advanced study of PLCs in manufacturing, including DCS & SCADA systems. The PLCLogix 5000 simulator integrated within the program emulates the Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000 programming applications and features 3D simulation and advanced programming.

Advanced Standing

If you have finished the PLC Technician program, you will receive credit for exemptions from seven modules of the PLC Technician II program.

This certificate program introduces the concepts of industrial robots and explains how they are used in a plant or manufacturing system. The primary focus of the program is on automated manufacturing processes, as well as the role of robots and their support equipment. Receive instruction in both theoretical concepts and laboratory exercises using a combination of multimedia learning resources and a robotics simulation software package, RoboLogix.

In the 16-week Apparel Fit Technician certificate program, you’ll learn to recognize good apparel fit, identify fit problems, correct fit in ready-made garments and apply ideal fit standards across different body types and fabrics. As a student in this program, you’ll also develop your customer service skills. 

The 16-week Industrial Power Sewing certificate program prepares you to work in an industrial sewing environment. After completing this program, you’ll be able to construct standard garments using industrial machines to a high standard. You’ll also gain experience using specialty sewing machines and pressing equipment.

In the three-semester Women in Fashion Technology certificate program, you’ll gain the skills to become a machine operator in the digital fashion technology fields of knitting, embroidery, dye sublimation and laser cutting.

George Brown Polytechnic's Early Childhood (EC) Management Certificate (Post-Diploma) is a certificate program designed to prepare supervisors and directors for their roles and responsibilities in childcare programs, family childcare, preschools, nursery schools, family drop-in centres, family literacy programs and early intervention services. This program will also prepare you for management and leadership in the integrated early childhood system that is emerging in Ontario.

George Brown’s English as a Second Language (ESL) (Part-Time) Certificate is an accelerated hybrid program to develop your English language skills for personal, professional and academic purposes. With eight levels catering to every skill level, from low beginner to advanced, you’ll find your perfect fit. Each level runs for six weeks and includes a mix of activities that will strengthen your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. You’ll also get to choose from an array of elective courses tailored to your unique needs, for a personalized learning experience.

The English for Academic Pathways at George Brown Polytechnic (R903) helps you build the English language proficiency needed for success in full-time post-secondary study in Canada.

This flexible program helps you meet the English language requirements for admission to George Brown Polytechnic's full-time certificate, diploma, advanced diploma, post-graduate and Bachelor’s degree programs.

George Brown Polytechnic’s English for Professional Success Certificate will give you the English language skills you need to succeed in Canada's highly competitive workplace. By polishing your verbal, listening and written communication skills, this part-time program will build your confidence in personal and professional interactions. If you’re a non-native speaker and have advanced-level English skills, this program is for you.

Please note: Classes are delivered in-person during evenings and weekends to accommodate working professionals.

Academic Upgrading (A751) is a tuition-free program designed to reduce barriers to accessing and succeeding in post-secondary education. If you're a mature student who hasn't completed grade 12 and wants to obtain a certificate, diploma, or degree, then this program is for you.

Through a personalized assessment, we'll identify your strengths and areas for growth. You'll then participate in targeted learning activities to enhance your skills, which may include reading, writing, math, and/or science. We also offer individual counselling supports, along with academic and career advising.

With multiple intakes throughout the year and options for full-time or part-time study, our program is tailored to accommodate your personal needs. You'll need to complete a reading and writing assessment to make sure the program is the right fit for you and that you receive the proper placement.

Please Note: Applicants will have the choice between courses offered in-person and online, subject to availability. Registered students who are regularly attending the program may be eligible to receive a transportation subsidy, a netbook, and/or monthly Internet device.
