New student seats will support programs aligned with Ontario’s workforce needs in health care, education, STEM and the skilled trades
George Brown Polytechnic will have the opportunity to welcome more students into programs connected to some of Ontario’s highest-demand fields through a new provincial Priority Growth Allocation.
The Ontario government recently announced the allocation as part of its efforts to expand access to post-secondary programs that prepare students for careers in areas of high workforce demand. George Brown has been allocated additional seats in programs that pertain to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), health care, education and the skilled trades.
The new seats, allocated for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 fiscal years, represent an important opportunity for George Brown to serve more learners while helping address evolving workforce needs across the province.
“We’re proud to be part of Ontario’s investment in expanding access to high-demand programs across health, education, trades and STEM,” said Dr. Gervan Fearon, President, George Brown Polytechnic. “This investment means more opportunities for students to gain the skills and experience they need to build careers. It also helps meet the workforce needs of communities across Ontario.”
Minister Quinn visits Waterfront Campus
The announcement coincided with a visit from the Honourable Nolan Quinn, Ontario’s Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, who joined members of the George Brown community at our Waterfront Campus.
During the visit, Minister Quinn toured several areas of the campus — including Mary's place — and learned more about the innovative teaching and learning experiences offered at George Brown Polytechnic.
The visit also offered an opportunity to showcase how George Brown is preparing graduates with the skills and experience they need to enter the workforce and contribute to communities across Ontario.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Minister Quinn to George Brown Polytechnic,” said Dr. Fearon. “We appreciate the Minister taking the time to see our programs and learning environments firsthand and his support for students and career-focused education.”
