About the Play

Translated and adapted for the stage by Kate Hennig, from the play by Edmond Rostand
Directed by Aaron Jan*

Fierce with a pen and notorious in combat, Cyrano de Bergerac is a swashbuckling seventeenth-century swordsman. Cyrano almost has it all - if only he could win the heart of his true love Roxane. There’s just one problem: he has a nose as huge as his heart. Will a society engulfed by narcissism get the better of Cyrano - or can his mastery of language set Roxane’s world alight? Could she ever love him for who he is?

In turns funny, tender, and self-aware, this classic tale about the exquisite distress of loving from afar will find its way into the hearts of even the most sceptical. From the acclaimed author of The Queenmaker Trilogy comes a new adaptation of one of the finest love stories ever told.

Cyrano de Bergerac is staged by arrangement with Emma Laird, GGA, www.ggagency.ca. This adaptation of CYRANO DE BERGERAC was commissioned and developed by the Shaw Festival Theatre, Canada, 2018.
