George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
George Brown is a non-smoking institution
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited in and on George Brown Polytechnic property.
George Brown recognizes the health hazards associated with smoking and secondhand smoke exposure, and to protect our community and in keeping with the New Smoke-Free Ontario Act 2017 and City of Toronto by-laws, we are committed to maintaining smoke-free campuses.
All students, employees, contractors, leasehold tenants, and the general public — including any group or persons renting or using our facilities — must adhere to our Smoke-Free Policy.
The burning, exhaling, and inhaling of all tobacco and cannabis products is not allowed:
- In all George Brown buildings
- On owned or leased George Brown property
- In a George Brown vehicle, or vehicles parked on school-owned or leased property
- Within nine meters of any George Brown entrance, regardless of ownership
The traditional burning of substances that form part of Indigenous culture and heritage is excepted.
Be considerate of your community
Smoking indoors causes a crisis response that disrupts our community and local emergency services. Failure to comply may result in fines.
It's okay to ask for help
Substance use is addictive. If you are trying to quit smoking, you don't have to do it alone.
