George Brown Theatre School’s 3-year Theatre Arts Performance program concludes its 2025-26 season with two plays performed in repertory: Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Parliament of The Birds.

Picnic at Hanging Rock
Written by Laura Annawyn Shamas
Based on the book by Joan Lindsay
Directed by Tanisha Taitt

For a group of Australian schoolgirls, a romantic Valentine's Day outing ends in an intriguing mystery. What has happened to the three seniors and the mathematics teacher on top of the jagged peaks of Hanging Rock? The baffling disappearance takes its toll on a small community in the Australian countryside. What seems pristine and proper on the outside may not be free of moral corruption on the inside.

The Parliament of the Birds
Written by Guillermo Verdecchia
Freely adapted from Farid Ud-Din Attar’s The Conference of the Birds.
Directed by Soheil Parsa

Believing better is possible is the first step. When the call goes out the birds of the world – all sizes, colours, and abilities – gather as one great flock and embark on an epic journey in search of self, enlightenment, and truth. The beloved allegorical poem by Persian poet Farid al-Din Attar comes to life in a new adaptation filled with hope, that is both timeless and sits firmly in the present.

Other creative artists include Sarah O’Brien* (stage management); Jackie Chau (set design); Maria Kofman (costume design – The Parliament of The Birds); Des’ree Gray (costume design – Picnic at Hanging Rock); Logan Raju Cracknell (lighting design); Scott Banks (sound design); and Parmida Vand (composer – The Parliament of The Birds).
