Learn how accommodation letters work and what to expect as a student registered with Accessible Learning Services. This page explains how to access your letters, share them with instructors, and use them to support your learning needs throughout the semester. Review the information below to ensure you understand the process and can make the most of your academic accommodations.
Delivery
Once you have met with your Accessibility Consultant and set up your accommodations, your Accommodation Letters are sent automatically to your professors at the beginning of each semester (unless you have interim or temporary accommodations that have expired). Professors can access your Accommodation Letter online in the Accommodate program to review and acknowledge they have read your Accommodation Letter.**
**NOTE: For Trent Nursing students: You will still need to submit your class schedule every semester, including each of your professor’s emails by emailing your Accessibility Consultant directly.
Interim/temporary accommodations
If you have interim or temporary accommodations, please ensure that you follow up with your Accessibility Consultant prior to the expiry date and provide any updated information that was discussed with your Accessibility Consultant.
Changing/updating your Accommodation Letter
If you need to make any changes to your Accommodation Letter, or are starting a new program, you must make an appointment with your Accessibility Consultant to ensure you have the most up to date information.
Accommodation Services requests
Accommodation Services, such as notetaking or an in-class assistant will be included in your Accommodation Plan, if already approved. However, if you require services offered through Accessible Learning Services, it is your responsibility to meet with your Accessibility Consultant before the start of every semester to submit a new request with your current schedule.
Tip: connect with your Accessibility Consultant as soon as you register for your classes!
Work Integrated Learning Accommodations
Schedule a meeting with your Accessibility Consultant to discuss Work Integrated Learning (WIL) accommodations at least two months prior to the start of the WIL term.
Test/exam accommodations—Booking Quizzes, Tests or Exams
If you have any in-person tests that require accommodations, please book your tests through the Assessment Centre, following their policies and procedures.
Please make sure you book at least seven days in advance of any testing dates.
Tip: once you have a list of your test dates for the semester, you can book them as far in advance as possible!
