Joshua has used his skills to launch and scale a successful construction company, whilst still being a student.
About Joshua Groves
Joshua Groves is the founder and President of JG Contracting & Design Co., a Toronto-based renovation and general contracting company built on craftsmanship, integrity, and client-first service.
Joshua is rooted in hands-on construction experience, project management, and a strong understanding of what it takes to turn a client’s vision into a finished space that exceeds expectations, whilst both functional and built to last.
Before launching JG Contracting & Design, Joshua spent years working directly in the trades, gaining practical experience across residential renovations, remodeling, and construction management. That time in the field gave him a strong foundation not only in how homes are built, but in how projects should be managed — with clear communication, attention to detail, and respect for team members and the client’s home, budget, and timeline.

What made you want to become an entrepreneur?
Wanting to work for myself after working for a number of different companies. Learning that I have a work ethic that is very noticeably outstanding compared to my peers. The amount I would produce vs other team members was evident that eventually I would need to do something for myself. To produce more, build a brand, but also be able to manage and train team members to learn and share my high standards.
Why did you create your business?
My entrepreneurial journey began with recognizing a gap in the market: many homeowners were struggling to find contractors who were dependable, organized, and genuinely invested in both the quality of the work and the client experience.
I saw an opportunity to build a company that offered more than construction alone — a company rooted in trust, professionalism, and premium customer service. That vision became JG Contracting & Design Co. What began as a passion for building quickly evolved into a business focused on delivering high-quality renovations, thoughtful design, and a seamless client experience from concept to completion. Today, JG Contracting & Design Co. continues to grow through a commitment to excellence, word-of-mouth referrals, and a reputation for doing the job right.
What successes have you enjoyed so far with building your company?
Growing almost 1000% in revenue in 4 years.
What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Pray as if everything depended on God, work as if everything depended on you. God feeds the birds, but he doesn’t just drop worms in their nest.
