George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.
George Brown has always been about real-world learning that sets you up for success in the job market. As a founding member of Polytechnics Canada, we’ve built our reputation on practical, career-ready skill development, close ties to industry, and seamless pathways to advance your education and career.
Now, we are taking a big step to fully embrace our polytechnic roots with a name change: George Brown Polytechnic!
Good things take time, and we plan to phase in our new name, look, and approach gradually. Stay tuned for more details in 2026.
Why now? Our name change coincides with the launch of our Master of Construction Management program, designed to prepare students for senior leadership roles and drive the next generation of industry growth.
A bright polytechnic future ahead!
Our first applied master's program symbolizes our polytechnic evolution. It marks a bright future ahead with a dynamic program mix that includes certificates, diplomas, and bachelor's and master's degrees. This is more than a name change; it’s about expanding our scope and building on our long-standing polytechnic approach, which includes skilled trades training, industry-informed programs, and work-integrated learning such as co-ops.
“This transformation is not just a name change; it signifies our commitment to advancing education and workforce readiness,” said Dr. Gervan Fearon, President of George Brown Polytechnic. “The Master of Construction Management program reflects our dedication to equipping students with the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry and bolster Canada’s productivity.”
George Brown has been a member of Polytechnics Canada since its inception in 2003 and was named as one of Ontario’s five Institutes of Technology and Advanced Learning in 2002. We are now fully embracing this amazing legacy in our name and in practice.
A new chapter at George Brown
There are many advantages to becoming a full-fledged polytechnic institution. This new change will enhance our profile and increase our impact on students, partners, and the communities we serve. It will advance innovation by strengthening our focus on market-aligned applied research and industry-driven programs.
We are ready to take bold action and set our students up for success in a fast-changing workforce.
