Black students and grads encouraged to apply now for Onyx Initiative corporate mentorship program

Black students and recent graduates from George Brown College can now apply to be part of a mentorship program that will connect them to Black leaders at Canadian corporations. 

George Brown partnered with the Onyx Initiative in October 2020 with the goal of increasing representation of Black Canadians in the corporate world by providing students with mentorship, coaching, and online skills training. 

How to apply 

Students and recent grads can apply on the Onyx Initiative website. The organization is encouraging mentees to complete their applications by the end of December for the first cohort. Applications will remain open throughout 2021.

Onyx also requires applicants to include an academic transcript and resume with their application.

“The disproportionate challenges Black students face in accessing corporate Canada is an enduring and pervasive issue," said Kizzy Bedeau, Director of the Community Partnerships Office at George Brown College. “We recognize this is a concerning issue and we are committed to helping change the employment outcomes of Black students by contributing to the dialogue, strategies and solutions that promote Black student success and their economic sustainability.”
