Dear friends,

We hope that you and those you care about are safe and healthy, as we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you for your past support of the Food Court Social, George Brown College Foundation's signature annual fundraiser, that brings together Toronto's top chefs and culinary artists in support of students facing mental health and addiction challenges.

We look forward to providing you with an update on Food Court Social 2020 very soon. Please stay tuned for more information. Thank you for your support!

About the event

The Food Court Social brings together many of Toronto's top chefs and culinary artists in support of students with mental health and addiction challenges enrolled in George Brown's Augmented Education program.

Last year the Food Court Social raised approximately $290,000 to offset programming costs for the Augmented Education program. Though we are unable to host an event this year, we continue to raise support and awareness for this life-changing program.

Over the past six years, the Food Court Social has become one of the College’s most visible and celebrated events. We look forward to hosting this incredible fundraiser virtually this October!

About The Augmented Education Program

George Brown College’s Augmented Education Program (Aug Ed) helps individuals with mental health and addiction challenges find and maintain employment. Aug Ed gives students the tools to achieve degrees of independence that would otherwise be extremely difficult to attain. Aug Ed provides job-focused education and training as well as post-program placement support.

This program offers two streams of training: the Culinary Skills (Preparatory Training) Program and the Construction Craft Worker Foundations Program. Successful completion of the program affords students their Ontario College Certificate as well as assistance finding jobs relevant to their training.

Aug Ed is offered at no cost to students and is partially funded by government and by fundraising efforts. As government provides performance-based funding, this means levels of funding fluctuate year-to-year. The funding raised by the Food Court Social is therefore essential to keeping this exceptional program operational and to help even more persons struggling with mental health and addiction challenges.

Aug Ed students still need your help during the pandemic.

COVID-19 Fundraising Initiatives

The pandemic has negatively affected our students, particularly those already facing obstacles to their education. Loss of jobs, unforeseen housing needs, food insecurity and the sudden shift to online classes, all have placed additional costs on students.

We hope you will consider supporting two emergency response initiatives designed to assist students in need during these uncertain times:

COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund

The COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to full-time George Brown College students. All donations to this fund go directly to students at George Brown College to mitigate issues such as food insecurity, housing, loss of income due to unemployment, and unexpected education and personal expenses.

COVID-19 Foodshare Emergency Food Box Fund

The COVID-19 Foodshare Emergency Food Box Fund is a joint initiative between Foodshare Toronto, a local registered charity, and George Brown College students, union representatives, staff, faculty and administrators to provide food to students and other members of the George Brown College community in need of emergency food assistance during the pandemic. All donations to this fund go directly to the purchase and delivery of emergency food boxes.
