Frequently Asked Questions
When do jobs get posted?
Most postings go up near the end of a semester, so that hiring and new staff training is complete ahead of start-up. For example, for Fall semester hiring, you can expect postings to go up around late July and into mid-August. That said, Chartwells and the Student Association hire year-round as their needs arise.
How many hours can I work?
Typically from 10 to 15 hours per week, depending on the role. During the summer, some roles allow students to work up to 24 hours per week if they are not enrolled in classes from May to August but will be returning in the fall.
Do I need prior work experience?
Not always! Many roles are designed for students starting their careers and offer training and mentorship to help students build workplace-ready skills.
Does Career Services hire students for on-campus jobs?
No. Each department at George Brown manages its own hiring. Career Services supports students by helping them prepare strong applications, understand requirements, and develop job search skills.
What happens after I apply?
Hiring departments review applications and will contact the students they’ve chosen to move forward with to the interview stage. Career Services does not track applications or selections and cannot answer questions on behalf of hiring teams. If you have questions about a posting, please contact the hiring department directly.
How can I access accommodations support during the hiring process?
