What does CRN mean?

CRN stands for Course Reference Number. It is a unique 5-digit number that differentiates between different sections of the same course.

For example, multiple sections (i.e. CRNs) of COMM 2000 Communicating Across Contexts may be offered, taught by different instructors and with different locations and/or schedules.

  • For post-secondary students, CRNs are located on your course timetable, and it is helpful to reference this number in your communications with the Academic Department and the Office of the Registrar when necessary.
  • For continuing education courses, CRNs are located on your course registration page, and it is helpful to reference this number in your communications with Continuing Education and the Office of the Registrar when necessary.
