You can change your preferred first name at the College by using the self-service tool on STU-VIEW

  1. Log in to your STU-VIEW account
  2. Go to the Personal Detail card and select on the 'Personal Information' link
  3. Select Edit on the Personal Details section
  4. Enter your preferred first name in the "Preferred First Name" field.

Once processed, the Office of the Registrar will send a confirmation to your George Brown email to confirm the name change within 1-2 business days.

Important Notes:

  • The College reserves the right to remove a preferred first name if the contains inappropriate or offensive language or is used for misrepresentation.
  • Your preferred first name change will update the following accounts:
    1. STU-VIEW
    2. Brightspace
    3. George Brown email – Both your display name and email address will be impacted
    4. MS Office Applications (e.g. Teams)
  • The preferred name will not alter the name displayed where a legal name is required for business practices and legal requirements. Some departments are required to send information to the federal or provincial government, where a legal name may be necessary. Additionally, some college systems are not yet integrated with the preferred first name information and will use a legal name. The following documents issued by the College will not reflect a student's preferred first name:
    1. Transcript
    2. Confirmation of enrolment
    3. Financial records (for instance, financial aid, receipts, and tax forms)
    4. Credentials (certificates, diplomas, and degrees)
