Apprenticeships are regulated by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) to train new workers in skilled trades. Apprenticeship training offers industry-specific education by combining on-the-job and in-school learning experiences.

The regional office of the MLITSD Workplace Training Branch registers all apprentices. You or your employer can contact the regional MLITSD office to request a visit from an Employment and Training Consultant at your workplace. The consultant will ensure that both you and your employer understand what an apprenticeship involves.

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age with a valid Social Insurance (SIN) number, and a recommended minimum of grade 12 education, including a strong foundation in math, sciences, and communications. Refer to each program for specific educational requirements.
