Program Overview

The College Vocational program is a supportive program that will help you bridge the gap if you have graduated from high school with workplace credits, an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or an Ontario Secondary School Certificate and are encountering barriers to finding appropriate and meaningful work.

The program offers you career exploration and planning, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills development, workplace communications and math, a range of inventories and self-assessments, as well as preparation for and participation in a work experience placement.

Upon successful completion, you will graduate with an Ontario College Certificate.

Full Description

College Vocational is a job-readiness program designed to meet the unique educational and vocational needs of people who are neurodiverse, or live with a mild intellectual disability. The program is two semesters in length and runs September to April. Intake begins in February of each year for the following September.

  • College Vocational is a supportive program that helps you bridge the gap if you have graduated from high school with predominantly workplace or possibly college credits.
  • The program may be suitable for you if you have an Ontario Secondary School Certificate or Diploma and are encountering barriers to finding appropriate and meaningful work.
  • You will participate in courses focused on career planning, communication and math skills training, digital skills training, and intrapersonal and interpersonal skills enhancement.
  • In collaboration with our community partner, PTP Adult Learning & Employment Programs, you will participate in a range of employment related workshops and a work experience placement.

Career Options

While the majority of College Vocational graduates go directly to work, some go on to specialized job training programs, academic upgrading and/or selected college programs.

College Vocational is a job-readiness program designed to meet the unique educational and vocational needs of people with mild intellectual disabilities who may not normally consider or qualify for entry into a traditional post-secondary program.

  • It is an individualized, supportive program that helps bridge the gap for students who have graduated from high school with predominantly workplace or possibly college credits.
  • This program may be suitable for students with an Ontario Secondary School Certificate or Diploma who are having difficulty finding appropriate and meaningful work.

Using a cohort model, the program helps students to develop academic, practical and social skills, and offers extensive assessment through the use of several vocational tools.

  • In addition, students participate in career planning, communication and life skills training, and a work experience placement.
  • Students use the computer lab to enhance keyboarding skills and to prepare resumés and cover letters.
  • Students enrolled in this program are eligible for loans and grants.
