George Brown College donates ventilators, PPE and food to help fight COVID-19

Michael Eliadis delivers ventilator to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

George Brown College has donated three ventilators and a significant amount of personal protective equipment (PPE) to Toronto hospitals and health care facilities to help protect front-line medical workers in the fight against COVID-19. 

Michael Eliadis, Manager of the Simulation Centre at George Brown’s Centre for Health Sciences (pictured), started delivering donations in late March. So far, we’ve provided Toronto health care facilities with the following: 

Ventilators 

  • Three ventilators—one to Mount Sinai Hospital and two to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

PPE - St. Michael’s Hospital 

  • 3,500 ear-loop face masks
  • 24 face shields
  • 350 N95 face masks
  • 6,000 pairs of gloves
  • 500 gowns
  • 6 containers of Virox/Cavi disinfectant wipes
  • 10 bottles of hand sanitizer and 4 hand sanitizer dispenser refills

PPE - Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) 

  • 250 gowns
  • 30 sanitizer bottles
  • 4,500 pairs of gloves
  • 250 masks

PPE - West Park Health Care 

  • 200 gowns
  • 150 masks
  • 1,000 pairs of gloves

PPE – Hazelton Place Retirement Centre 

  • 1,000 masks

PPE – Eatonville Care Centre 

  • 10 thermometers
  • 1200 thermometer probe covers

“Some of my former colleagues at St. Michael’s Emergency Department are now safer because of this donation,” said Karen Olivero, Professor in the Personal Support Worker program. 

Fresh food donations 

George Brown’s Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts also donated eggs, fruit, vegetables, breads, sauces and dairy goods to Second Harvest in late March to help combat food insecurity and food waste.
