George Brown Polytechnic is located on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and other Indigenous peoples who have lived here over time. We are grateful to share this land as treaty people who learn, work and live in the community with each other.

The George Brown Foundation is proud to congratulate its President, Marci Ien, on receiving an honorary doctorate from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) at its fall convocation on October 16, 2026.
One of the university’s highest honours, the degree recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to society and their communities. Marci was recognized for her career in journalism, public service and community leadership.
A proud TMU alumna, Marci spent nearly three decades in Canadian broadcasting before serving as the Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre and as Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth. Throughout her career, she has championed inclusion, amplified diverse voices and built connections across communities.
As President of the George Brown Foundation, Marci brings her commitment to community and opportunity to supporting student success. The Foundation helps make education more accessible through scholarships, bursaries, emergency assistance and food security initiatives.
Congratulations to Marci on this well-deserved recognition!
