Biography
Prior to his study of PhD at McMaster University, Dr. Wang worked with a Chinese joint venture for ten years and another Canadian manufacturing firm for three years. He performed many HR roles, such as organization design, HR planning, compensation, performance management, training, health and safety, and job analysis. He also acquired more than 200 hours of training experience as an internal trainer. These corporate training experiences enable him to understand the adult learning processes, trainees’ learning needs, and strategies for knowledge acquisition and retention.
Dr. Wang believes in drawing upon multiple training methods (e.g., lecture, case study, role playing, games, audio-visual presentations, etc.) to deliver up-to-date knowledge of theory and research supplemented with best practices of specific organizations, encouraging lecturer-student and student-student interactions within and after classes, and offering students opportunities to apply their new knowledge and skills to solving applied organizational problems. Beyond getting students to acquire and retain a pool of knowledge, courses should aim to enhance students’ critical thinking, self-learning, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
