Their presence underscored the province’s focus on accelerating responsible resource development, strengthening supply chains, and creating high-quality jobs.
$14B investment signals confidence in Ontario’s economy and workforce
During a morning press conference attended by President of the Treasury Board Caroline Mulroney, Minister Lecce confirmed a landmark $14 billion planned investment by Agnico Eagle in Ontario’s mining sector—one of the province’s largest private-sector commitments in recent history. The investment is expected to support up to 1,600 new jobs and drive significant economic growth, reinforcing Ontario’s position as a leading destination for responsible mining and critical minerals development.
The event brought together influential voices across the sector, including Agnico Eagle President and CEO Ammar Al-Joundi, representatives from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Skills Ontario, and mining industry leaders—highlighting strong collaboration among government, industry, and educators.
Speakers emphasized that streamlined permitting, regulatory reforms, and a competitive investment climate are helping Ontario attract global capital while advancing ethical resource development and Indigenous partnerships.

George Brown students, wearing hard hats and safety vests, played an active role in supporting the announcement, representing the future workforce that will help deliver Ontario’s ambitious economic and infrastructure goals and underscoring the institution’s commitment to preparing the next generation of skilled trades and technical professionals.
Building pathways to skilled trades and economic opportunity
The day’s events reinforced the critical connection among education, industry, and government in building a stronger Ontario—where investments in infrastructure translate into meaningful career pathways for learners and resilient growth for communities across the province.
