The Teaching and Learning Exchange (TLX) presents its annual evolvED conference on Friday, June 6, 2025. This one-day conference, hosted at Limberlost Place, will include a keynote presentation by Dr. Elizabeth "Dori” Tunstall, concurrent sessions led by George Brown College (GBC) faculty, a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) photo showcase, and a reception at the end of the day. This year, evolvED will be offered as part of GBC’s Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences programming.
The 2025 conference theme, Intentionally Evolving Together: Challenges, Inspiration, and Possibilities, invites participants to reflect on key questions:
- What challenges us to grow as educators, students, and institutions?
- Where is our inspiration in times of change?
- What new possibilities emerge when we approach evolution with intention?
Throughout the day, attendees will participate in showcases, spotlights, and presentations that touch on topics that include using generative AI to boost research, evolving pedagogies for a disruptive future, exploring VR in dental-assisting education, and enhancing student engagement through inclusive and accessible teaching practices.
“This year’s evolvED conference provides a unique opportunity for the GBC teaching and learning community to connect with one another as well as with academics from across higher education who will be gathered on campus for Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences,” said Dr. Heidi Marsh, Associate Vice-President of Teaching and Learning. “We’re particularly excited to host evolvED at Limberlost Place, with its beautiful new flexible learning spaces.”
Decolonizing Design: Doubling Down on Liberatory Joy
In evolvED’s keynote talk, Dr. Dori Tunstall will discuss the shifting possibilities of institutional transformation in decolonizing design and other fields. She’ll address "Putting Indigenous First" as moral and ethical guidelines, and will focus on liberatory joy and the everyday practice of saying "no" to that which is harmful to self, communities, and the environment — and how joy is found in the deeper connections to self, communities, and the environment.
