Biography
As Associate Vice-President, Strategy, Planning and Risk, Dr. Paul Armstrong provides leadership, direction and oversight of integrated institutional planning and research, and enterprise risk management and insurance. He is committed to ensuring that George Brown Polytechnic's academic and administrative leaders have access to high-quality data, analysis and insights to inform strategic planning, budgeting and reporting processes.
Paul has an extensive understanding of the complexities of the post-secondary sector, having worked at the institutional planning level but also as a lecturer and researcher. He was the director of Seneca College’s Centre for Institutional Data and Enterprise Analytics where his team contributed data and analysis to strategic enrolment management, negotiated government funding agreements, and created customized dashboards that resulted in stronger data-driven decision making. He also served on Polytechnics Canada’s Heads of Institutional Research group.
An award-winning researcher, Paul has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at academic conferences with a focus on post-secondary access and retention for youth from underserved communities. He has taught at Concordia University, the University of Toronto, and Centennial College. Paul is bilingual in English and French.
Paul earned his doctorate and master’s of Sociology from the University of Toronto, and his bachelor’s from the University of Lethbridge.
