Treaties Recognition Week

November is Indigenous Education Month, and the first week is Treaties Recognition Week (November 2-8), which is an annual event to learn about and reflect on treaty rights and relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and learn more about the lands where we live and work.

George Brown is located within the Toronto Purchase Treaty lands (Treaty 13). We are all treaty people, and we encourage you to take time this week and throughout the year to reflect on what that means and to consider our collective and individual responsibilities. Resources from the Indigenous Initiatives team are an excellent place to start.

You can also find detailed information on the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation website, George Brown’s treaty partner.

George Brown’s Indigenous Education Strategy recognizes post-secondary education as a treaty right and shared responsibility. Please visit the Indigenous Initiatives Strategy page to learn more about our strategic commitments to advance reconciliation and decolonization at George Brown, and find details on the role of the Indigenous Education Council and how we can all support this work.

Join us for our next Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Series event online on November 19.

Register for Honouring Indigenous Disability Month: Breaking Stigma and Building Support.

Let us take this opportunity to strengthen our understanding and commitment to reconciliation.
