Support for GBC students and employees affected by unrest in Iran

The George Brown College community includes many students and employees from Iran, and with connections to the country and its people.  The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, while in the custody of Iran’s morality police, has resulted in protests and unrest in the region and we understand the anxiety, fear and frustration this is causing within our community.

Our thoughts are with the people of Iran, members of the Iranian community at George Brown and their loved ones, as unrest intensifies throughout the country. As the situation continues to unfold, there is great concern for the safety, rights and freedoms of Iranians. At George Brown, we are committed to social justice and the advancement of human rights, gender equality and freedom of expression. We stand in solidarity with those all around the globe who peacefully protest in defense of these values. We will continue to promote and uphold these principles within our walls and in our surrounding community.

“To our Iranian students, staff and faculty, I want to let you know that your George Brown community stands with you at this difficult time, and we are here to support you.,” says Dr. Gervan Fearon, President, George Brown College.
