Aspiring screenwriters or visual effects artists can now train for careers from anywhere thanks to new fully online programs at George Brown College’s School of Media and Performing Arts.

The one-year graduate certificate Screenwriting & Narrative Design and Visual Effects programs prepare students for the exciting and always evolving film, television and game industries. Students will learn the latest trends, technologies and techniques in a field that has evolved and is now remote-friendly.

“Toronto has a vibrant film and television industry, but you don’t have to study here to benefit from the expertise of Toronto television, film and game professionals thanks to these online programs,” said Trent Scherer, Chair of the School of Media and Performing Arts. “These programs provide solid training for artists eager to start careers as writers, story and script consultants, showrunners or 3D and stop-motion animators, environment and character modelers, visual effects artists and more.”

Whether you want to create the next binge-worthy streaming series, make movie effects magic or create rich worlds and plot developments for video games, these programs help students develop the technical and human skills needed to succeed in these highly competitive industries.

“Students work collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams to create visual effects and writers hone presentation skills in order to effectively and persuasively pitch project ideas,” said Robert Sgrignoli from Ubisoft. “Technical skills are vital, but so is the ability to communicate ideas and concepts effectively and to work successfully remotely yet part of a team. These programs prepare students to rise to the challenges in these exciting career paths.”
